Coming in from Indianapolis on the 27th or 28th to begin orientation, was told to be there a day early if I can to get everything set up with tablet and drug screen. How hard is it to get to the yard for orientation? I have never been to Louisville before

when you load you can get about half advanced to you to pay for fuel, its not a fuel card where they deduct the fuel amount from settlements.Truckin Juggalo, OONewbie and bigred1978 Thank this. -
you pay the $1.75 anytime funds are loaded to your card, you'll see it on your settlement statement. While at orientation it is a good idea to talk to truck pay and arrange for your settlement statements to be emailed to you, unless you want to wait a few days for them to show up at home. You will know as soon as a load settles and see what will go into your bank, and what is in your reserve. Also you could catch a mistake in your pay but that has been exceptionally rare. At one company I maybe had one load a month paid properly, at Mercer I think I've only questioned three loads and in each case the agent had "changed" the pay. I kept screen captures of my dispatched load showing the pay I agreed to and it was immediately corrected in each case.
TaylorMade407, Razorwyr, OONewbie and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ok CJndaTruck I gotcha. Thanks. Makes more sense now. I guess my next question is do any of you guys have a business setup. My mom who is a CPA was saying I should setup a LLC or S-Corp. I kinda thought it would be overkill for a 1 truck show and even more so for the fact that I'd be leasing on to a carrier. She was saying that in case anything happens then they couldn't come after my personal assests. But how would that work since I'll be running under Mercer authority. I know trucking is a whole other animal from the regular business world.

So how does that work that work not being a fuel card and not deducting from settlement -
That's where the extra 1.75 comes in at for each upload on the card. Makes sense to use it at a minimum if at all.

you'll want to do at least a llc by your second year
