Hello all I am trying to decide between Mercer and Landstar to pull a Van, Does Mercer have very much Van freight, and will they help out if you need a loan for a break down if needed? I know we are o/o and business men but I have seen the time I had a break down and drained my acct. and the next week something else went wrong. All help is appreciated.

yes they do help out and they even have a name for it. I just had my truck inspected and ended up needing new shoes on the steers and forgot the Debit card at home and they would not take the number over the phone. So I called Mercer the see if I could use the fuel card to pay for it and she said yes or I could use there loan program.. It just ends up being another thing that comes out of your settlement after each load..

But like Wideload said I think it is rare that they will help out a lot at first because I believe the program works with how much revenue you are generating and how long you have been there.. The more your making the more they will help you out..

they used to have an age limit but they dropped it for now.

they helped me with my repairs because i didnt take any loan for equipment. i had almost all mu flatbed equipment and i paid cash for the rest. normally guys get what they need from the store, put half down and the rest they loan you.

Last I heard age limit is 1997. I'm sure they have not dropped that. Even heard talk of raising that to 99.

More loads at Landstar. But I hear it's more cut throat and have to get in with agents.
Here at Mercer, everybody on same scale, waiting list, no need to know any agents. Unless your RGN.
Mercer is very upfront and honest about everything. Never push you to take anything.
Little strict about inspections and CSA scores.
I've been told at Landstar, all new hires have to install On board recorders, not at Mercer.
Freight is little on slow side here right now and probably worse next month as us UPS guys go back to open board.
Mercer is much more of flatbed company where Landstar runs about everything.
I love it here and couldn't pay me to switch so maybe I'm prejudice
