Pete, I hope I misunderstood. you didn't deadhead that far to pickup a load to Texas for 1.42 per mile. Texas is a cheap area. Always get Paid well to go there. Not ragging on ya at all. Just trying to help.

No but there to nd of em going near Dallas. Looking at the load bored all I'm seeing is like 1.40 - 1.70 that are close. Maybe I'm not searching right.

Hey Pete, your probably reading the board right. Problem is you started reading it on Friday. Most the good loads are gone by then. It's your first load and no matter what anyone says, you made the start of a relationship with an agent. Remember there is a huge learning curve here. 4 months and I'm still learning. Also, when it comes to rates most of us run flats or steps. So we have a different base number. I can only speak for myself but one of the things I have learned is it often pays to sit. Having come from a Mega company, sitting always meant loosing $. That's not really the case here. Don't be afraid to stop and smell the roses. Congrats and best of luck to you.

There wasn't anything closer in the area for the same rate? And was it possible to negotiate the deadhead pay?

Not on Friday. They gave me $500 to dh. For 600 miles which was 1.20 just for dh. Then loaded I made 1.42. So I still made money. By the time I got everything done Friday got my permits book for truck is was 515. My coordinator stayed late so I wouldn't have to sit. I think he's the one that asked for the dh money. If they didn't pay me dh then I wouldn't of done it.

I'm not sure where you went to school but on my planet $500 divided by 600 miles is 83.33 cents per mile not $1.20 a mile, which it would be if the numbers were reversed.
