Well it's official. Just completed my best run ever (hopefully not forever). PA - CA $7900. Load in the AM to Phoenix for another $1200 then put the truck in the shop to get an APU installed and the million mile maint. Done that I've been putting off. So I spent a couple weeks staying east of 35 and to be honest, way to much work on those shorter runs for way to little pay. Don't get me wrong, I made good money out east but after looking at my records and not including this last week (I know I can't pull 8k a week very often) I seem to have done much better with the long runs. My PPM was much higher out east at $3+ on all miles vrs $2.2 (not including this fluke week) but the amount of time spent loading and unloading really seems to have killed my ability to be able to match my weekly gross avg. So everyone has always said you need to find your little groove here at Mercer. And I think I will give the East Coast 1 more shot as 3 weeks is not a great base to make a final decision, but for the moment I'll stick to the long haul while rates for me have been good.
-
Cj, while you didn't gross as much. Look at the net, vs hours worked. I'd be surprised if the net isn't #### close on a lot less work.
-
The Net was close but it felt like a lot more work. And like I said, 1 3week test has set nothing in stone. I'll give it another shot here shortly. Looking at my records I seem to have done very well back east. And except for one run into New Hampshire (talk about a no freight zone) I stayed in great markets. And even my trip to NH paid enough to be worth the bounce to PA for the next load.
It's still a learning process for me here. So for now I just need to keep trying different tactics to find what really works for me. With that said, am I the only one NOT seeing these crappy rates that people keep talking about? Heck I keep looking at van rates because of all this complaining and I often see rates that look better then flat rates. I've actually thought (for a microsecond or two) of switching to van for a bit to scope up some of those good rates. Or is it that this influx of van drivers just haven't figured out how to work the board yet? -
I see a lot of crap rates. Right next to a load with a great rate, that's 50 miles more deadhead, or needs tarped. Obviously some areas have crap for rates, but if you went in for the right rate, it doesnt matter.

Man I'm having bad luck. My 300 watt inverter went out. Now my ac is out... I got a 1500 watt looks like I'm installing it in am.. Then gonna see what's up with my ac..
-
That sucks pete. If you were down by me I'd tell ya to swing it bye and let's see what we can find out about that ac.
A note about inverters, the cheap ones they sell at the truck stop aren't worth their weight in dirt. They will fry today's electronics. About the only thing you can safely run on them is cheap stuff like a microwave and coffee pot. They still will eventually fry those, but for what they cost, no big deal. But never plug a smart phone, tablet, or laptop into one unless you like spending money on new batteries for your toys. The modified sine wave is no good for delicate expensive electronics. For that you need true sine wave power. But a true sine wave inverter is not cheap. About 600 four a small one, over five grand for a really good one(like an ambulance would use). Looking at around a grand to twelve hundred for one of decent wattage. -
Yea I bought the older inverter doesn't say anything about sine waves just got to hook it up. Looked at the ac can't see aanything that looks wet. Guess I'm have a ta look at it.
