So the flat seems to be the way to go. I don't really see many dry vans drivers repost on here. Are all of them on flats now. Or are they just shy or broke? I'm approved and waiting on the list for a van. After reading this I'm thinking. ...I don't have flat experience though.

There are a few van guys on here. And the ones I know are not broke. They seem to do pretty well actually. However, flats do a little better. As for the lack of flat experiance? Well I came here with none too. But after learning a few things it really only hurts me when it comes to tarping (I am the worlds slowest tarp guy). Good luck to you.

I think the key to learning flatbed is to 1. Know how to use the equipment, the straps, chains, binders, edge protectors, winches, ratchet straps, bungees, and anything else you would need. Once you get pass that part the easiest thing you could do is over secure, trust me that's the best advice you could get. Little tips with flatbedding is chains on steel and straps on everything else unless specified. If your unsure ask the shipper or another driver, I guarantee they'll tell you the right way. With the dreaded tarps its two basic fundamentals because everyone tarps differently. One is folding/unfolding them the right way and two is to bungee your load nice and tight. Other than that perfection comes with time. Any questions ask anybody on here or at the yard. Nobody wants you going down the road with a half secure load and it happens to kill a loved one so be sure to ask questions. Good luck and call your recruiter and switch to a flat

Hey thanks to all you guys on this forum. Usually when you look at a company online all you get is the guys with negative things to say. It's nice to hear a response from all you guys. That are actually trying to help. Usually recruiting tells you the good. And the drivers tell you the bad and the ugly

You will find that our recruiters are pretty honest. They will tell you the good AND bad if you ask the right questions. I have yet to find a thing that my recruiter lied about or for that matter even mislead me on. They work in house unlike most companies. You will met your. Heck I still chat with mine. Suppose to do lunch when I get back there next time. You will find that this isn't like other companies.

I've only been here a week so it isn't much I can tell you other than my first two loads are full tarp, I hate dispatchers.... smh...... Oh wait you dispatch your self so I'd have to blame myself lol. They paid well enough and I don't mind tarping. But in all seriousness if you read through the thread you'll see that these guys are happy.

Mercer will feed you on their dime, and feed you a lot. And I don't mean some generic meal. You'll literally place your own order and they'll cover it. Unless it's after hours then order some Chinese food and kick back and relax.

I would like to say I read them all. I did read most of this thread and a few others. I have to say unless this is a recruiter thread. It's the happiest group of drivers I've ever seen in the last decade
