so whos fault is it you are not getting the numbers you want. I am doing just as consistent as I ever have here. the overall rates are down, but my profit is right where it has always been. I am running some different lanes that I used to do, do more of short next day deliveries and my avg for all miles is still a tad over 2.00 a mile. the rates are a product of the shell game of fuel surcharge, which is artificial way of raising rates. what goes up. will come down. you don't hear much on anybodys forum of the old deal" I make money off the fuel surcharge." and wolfhound , if you will reread the comments that made you decide to come here, you will see that it was said you could avg. 2.00 a mile if you used your noodle, did anyone say it was automatic, no I don't think so. so
let me ask this, what changes or adaptations have you tried in order to straighten things out?? if you weren't doing what you were told why did ya buy a trailer?Last edited: Jun 10, 2015
CJndaTruck, roshea, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You said you averaged $1.85 all miles last year, yet with rates down this year you're averaging a tad over $2.00. Now I don't want to go back and forth with you but I gotta ask, you posted time and again that rates are down this year, so how is it that you're able to average $0.15 more per mile this year if rates are down?

I find it absolutely mind blowing that people on here think Texas has cheap freight. I know its not the best state for freight, but I have never had a problem with any of my trucks getting over $2/mile out of Texas.
So either 1 you are an idiot who takes a load to west, TX. Or 2 you are talking out your ###! I will put my money on #2!
It seems that the people who are ALWAYS on here complaining about cheap rates & are NEVER working seem to be the least educated. It is very unfortunate that Mercer hires pathetic individuals like that.spyder7723 Thanks this. -

Seems to me you dont have a good relationship with any of the agents then. Doesn't surprise me considering your attitude & the fact that you're never on the road!
You can say what you want, but I live in Texas & I have 3 trucks based out of Texas. So you tell me super trucker with all your trucking knowledge. -
I'm guessing you run under your own numbers, please correct me if I'm wrong. Texas is a weak area for Mercer. It's got the same problem cali does, everyone wants to run there so there is just too many trucks ahead of you on our board. in our system I don't expect more than 1.75 out of Texas. That's truck pay, after Mercer takes their 25 percent.
Bus before some idiot tries to quote me, and use my words out of context, this doesn't mean I only made 1.75 and am happy at that number. It simply means I didn't go to Texas for less than what it takes to average over 2 bucks on the round trip.

All 3 of my trucks are leased onto Mercer. Started with 1 truck & had 3 in under a year. I am the 1st to say Texas is a rough area....but if nobody read that I am from Texas, then yall arent understanding what I am getting at.
When I go home, I go home for awhile. So yea, I am #1 on the board when I am ready to leave out. Advantage, per Mercer policy! I have 2 flats leased on and they get $2/mile or better when they leave. Its not that hard to wrap your head around. We don't run to TX to deliver and pull right back out. That doesn't make sense.
I understand what you're saying about Texas freight. Unlike most people at Mercer I am extremely young. As are the 2 drivers in my other trucks. I stay on the road for a minimum of 90 days as do the other trucks. We dont go to Texas unless its time to go home.
Maybe it's because of the way I run my own personal operation. Everyone has figured out what works for them @ Mercer. This is what has made me successful here. $2/mile is not difficult to get. Its like anywhere else in the country. Its all about timing.
I have pulled out of California for over $2/mile several times. But I go to Canada, Oregon, Washington, you name it!roshea Thanks this.
