What I make as a company driver is better then I can do elsewhere.

Just think of all the big money I can make if I owned my own truck. I could be a 2%er in under 5 years :biggrin_25525:

I don't drive this truck for the glory, I drive it for the money.

You do realize that by having your own truck, that means in five years you will have 2% left of what you started with, right?

Right now I'm looking at loads, some pretty pathetic stuff out there. 48K out of NC for 1.28, that's also 8' tarp. OD 9'10" load @ 1.52. East coast to west coast for 1.33. Can't agents do any better than that, or is this because of price competition from the low life carriers? Has anyone notice a drop in rates since Averitt started their regional mid-west/south-east flat division a few years back?

You are better off sitting for a day to see if you can find something that has a decent rate, or deadheading out to a better area.

I'm sitting at my house in PA. Haven't seen my real home in NC since March. I was just commenting on some of the pitiful freight offerings. There's also plenty of decent stuff, I just don't see why agents bother dealing with the loads even the bottom feeders wouldn't want. Some of these 400-600 mile loads pay less than ones I take 30-40 miles. But somebody will do them, they always find someone that "just needs fuel money". I like loads going from southeast PA or NJ to Ohio where the only logical way is the PA turnpike, and they loads pay around $500 and have $100 or more in tolls. Toll increases go into effect on PA Tpke Jan 4th I think, anyone care to make bets on whether rates will go up to cover that?

Last run down the turnpike from nj-oh it cost me $162 in tolls just like you said them loads pay half what they should when you tell them there's tolls they say go around them like that's easy 68 is not the best hwy to travel how much are the tolls going up?

A 500 mile run always paid $1,300-$1,450 I see runs like that these days $850 it's crazy $350 is the minimum I'll move my truck for 100 mile run I need to be around $450-550,A 300 mile run that takes all day should pay $900-1,000 and more and more loads these days are tarp loads and they think we should do that for free

Yeah, the east coast stuff seems to be very cheap this last year. Only way I made any money out of PA was to run OS stuff, the legal loads would barely cover fuel. I did a few railroad loads to Altoona that paid me $5 mile round-trip, but I only did 6 of those and they were done. You'd think this time of year, you'd be able to do well in PA seeing it's a horrible state for snow and most guys are sitting down south (still cold tho HAHA)... hope things pick up for you guys.

I'm sitting in Abilene, TX waiting on the Western Star dealer to install a new clutch so I can unload these compressors I have had on since Dec 19th. Were supposed to unload yesterday but it just couldn't hold out till i got there LOL.
