If you do treat (which sounds like you should) have several spare fuel filters (including APU) because when this stuff breaks loose it's gonna' clog some filters and always at the most inconvenient time.lol
I get Killem at O'Reilly. BTW, I understand fuel algae is a big problem in the marine industry. -
Mr huds and truckerpete.
I own my truck outright. I've had it paid off for roughly 2 years. Bought it from a buddy of mine and he did the financing for me. My truck is in great mechanical shape, which has come at a heavy cost. About the only things that haven't been done are transmission, rearends, and paint.
So my thought was to use the income from my paid for truck to pay for the new truck payments. Doesn't have to be bought thru quality though.
Just brainstorming!!
Thanks for everyone's input.
Thanks,

If I lease a trailer from mercer, will I ever have to drop and hook. I've heard of other companies having to do this. The answer to this question is probably no, but just want to make sure. Also, guess I have to take what they give me, right?
Btw.....this thread is an awesome resource. I've done my homework on a lot of different companies. Mercer seems to get the most positive feedback. I haven't heard a sing negative thing about them.....which is definitely not the norm. -
Another few questions about the trailers....all are spreads, right? All aluminum or combo? When you said new......there were no miles on your trailer, pete?
Is utility the only brand? -
Thank you, sir.

As far as drop and hook, that's extremely uncommon, but not unheard of. There are a few dedicated accounts where this happens. But your trailer will never be pulled by another driver with one exception. If you break down and the load HAS to be there, they can ask you to let another guy go deliver the load and bring your trailer back to you.
If you get a flat from mercer it will be a combo, fixed spread on low pro 22.5 tires. if you get a drop deck, it's a 51 foot, sliding spread combo on low pro 22.5. the trailer lease is not a bad deal, the payments boil down to what you would expect to pay for that same trailer from any dealer after financing charges. For example, mine is 525 a month for 60 months. That's with 100 escrow included. There is a 6k buy out. The escrow covers it.
The only way to find a trailer cheaper is to buy used, or have AAA credit. Or obviously if you can write a check and avoid any financing charges.
Oh, and our flats have a dump valve installed from the factory on that rear axle.Bigdaddy76, Cat sdp and tmslogistics Thank this. -
Spuder. Thanks alot for sharing all of this information with me.
Is there any fuel surcharge paid? Does the company take their 25% from line haul, stop/pick pay, layover pay, detention, accessories pay, tarp pay? What all do they take their 25% from?
Thanks,
Toby
