And I know guys that make good money and are home almost every night. Since you didn't answer any of the questions, I'm assuming you have a list of "won't do or won't go", there are quite a few loads right now leaving NJ paying decent. Yeah, lots of guys will deadhead 400 miles to avoid doing something they don't want to do, that's each drivers choice. I've worked exclusively in the northeast since March and haven't had enough of a break to get to my house in NC, don't know how that could happen if there were no loads. At my house here every single weekend during that time too. Takes time to make connections and learn the system. And yeah, those car loads from NY to PHL suck, got talked into doing one and never again. Seems almost every driver there says "this is my first time here, how do we tie these down" ... and for almost all of them there will not be a second time. But that load is the exception.

Question. I keep reading "western board/eastern board" etc. Does this only apply to flatbed? Because I'm pulling van and when i log in to the load board i have the option to look by state but not regions the way you guys are describing. Just signed on a week ago and trying to get a feel for the system.

well you look at a 250 radius of scranton pa right now and you tell me wheres the frieght for a flatbed, and im not talkin about 550 dollar loads from lancaster, pa to washington dc or loads to mass or conneticut that your gonna deadhead back from cause ya cant get out of there nothing to the midwest and if ya want to go to florida you have to wait till the 7th of january to load it these connections you talk about well from what i was told the systems set up that everybody gets an equal shot at things so why the connections? if your doing good here good for you man im not ryin to start an argument but theres alot of us that isnt

what we're referring to has nothing to do with the load board, you can look at anything you want to there. Western board is comprised of the west coast states plus ID, CO, NV, AZ, UT and WY I think, can't guarantee the accuracy of that statement. It has to do with where you are in line for dispatch rather than what is accessible. If you stay on the western board and just run loads within that area, you continue to move up in line for loads heading out of that area, i.e. into the eastern states. I don't see it making that much difference though. Western board refers to all agents in those designated western states. If you are not out there then lets say you are in Ohio. You are "assigned" to maybe the Cincinnati board, or Cleveland, depending on several factors. That doesn't mean you are in any way restricted from working with any other office, or accepting a load from anywhere you want. I think it meant a lot more before the online load search was widely adopted by the majority of drivers in recent years, when you were assigned to an office as a starting point. Before the load board agents and your coordinator were the only place to find out what was happening, and your coordinator should have been working for you on that, it's his job. Nowadays many drivers only talk to their coordinator for loaded and empty calls, and to say "send more money". Hope this helps.brodgers and DisturbingThaPeace Thank this. -
