250 or less from scranton, ft drum to ft polk,la and the whitney,ny to charlotte at 1.58 for 3,000 pounds sucks on rate but it wold be like running mpty for 1.58.

what you got right now is the week after new years is bad and all the trucks bringing sandy supplies has flat rates in the tank. what you do in those situations is take one to a good area to get out of the house and ride.

We are not a large company but we run a lot from the Midwest to the Mid Atlantic. We are able to get premium rates from Iowa to the Mid Atlantic. Our rates are not great from the Mid Atlantic to the MW, usually around 1.45/mi + .56/mi FSC. This would only be 1.54/mi on loaded miles to the contractor. However, our guys that run this lane are between 1.90-2.00/mi on all miles (loaded or empty). I have to think that Mercer would have better contacts than we do on the East Coast. They might not get our rates out of Iowa, but I would think they have good freight out of Northern IN/Chicago to the East Coast. My opinion is that the money is out there as long you are willing to go where the money is.

if you're able to get your "Louisville inspection" from Len during his travels in the summer and fall doing inspections around the country you can avoid Louisville completely. I know a few guys that haven't been there for quite a few years.

You guys make going to Louisiville sound like a bad thing. I also wish I could text in my check calls and never have to call in.
But I also enjoy stoping by the yard if I got time. Free laundry, fill water tank and emty septic, out to dinner, turn in paperwork vs.scanning in it.
    Kinda like a camp ground.
    Now let me here it.

I'm all for getting by Louisville, just for much of the year I'm with one shipper in PA and can't get there. There are those that don't want anything to do with going there for a variety of reasons. I enjoy visiting with different departments and catching up with my coordinator in person. Everybody has a different opinion on going there, just like some people have enough freight and others say there is nothing available. Or to put it in more modern terms (that make little sense to me!), "it is what it is".

I need to get by there and have a long chat with safety if I can. And grab that free lunch.

If you get the trailer through Mercer, it is leased from them. You are free to buy/rent/lease a trailer from anyone, no company can tell you a trailer must be leased from them. If you want something they don't have they can refer you to places they've worked with before. Biggest advantage is no finance paperwork, normally they will do an approval of you during your recruiting process.
