I still don't understand how the board works, so if say five trucks drop in youngstown,oh on Monday any of them can pull a load off the board but the first guy that drops can get first pick of the next load that comes up is that it?

not if there is already ten guys there empty then the first guy empty would be 11th.

then it gets into things like a guy 250 miles away has his preferences set to 200 miles so hes not showing up in your positions. well then he decides to move out to 300mi search and.boom, he could know you down another notch

Hotshot: You got the general ideal.
Though most areas, there is not much if any of a list. So if you choose on a load, you will get it. Areas like Indiana, Ohio, chicago, Ky. usually not any list.
Now get in Fl. or Tx. or LA. or NM. there will be a list.
Now if actually 100 new drivers in Louisville, then this week, there will probably be a list within 100 miles of Louisville. And I need to go down there Monday for inspection.

So what your saying is you can't get a load until the guys in front of you get loaded??

    No, no
It means he has the option of taking the load first. It will time out past hime in 15-30 min. If you click on will commit, it will keep you from commiting on others and give you the load if he passes on it or it times out. The coordinators job is to make sure the drivers pass or commit. They will try to call, then pass for you. They get bad marks for to many time outs. But you can commit, even if your coordinator has passed for you.
But if you commit, Mercer expects you to haul the load if it is given to you. But they also will never push you to commit to a load.

It just don't make any sense so anyone at anytime can take a load off the board? But them loads are the ones the trucks turned down in front of you?

The good loads are not turned down much.
And we have a lot of picky drivers.

It just don't make sense to me so why wouldn't you set it up for say 500 miles and just pass on what you don't want?

If you set it up for 500 miles and get matched for say 100 loads, it would make your coordinator need to call you for 100 loads or just turn them all down. Besides, I beleive it will not match you up with more than approx. 15 loads. So you get passed on loads, just because you or your coordinator can't keep up with the choosing.
Though when your in a bad area, like Denver you would want to look out at say 500 miles.
Also you have to seriously be willing to deadhead that far if your coodinator takes a load for you.

just because there is 20 drivers ahead of you dont mean you wont getva load you want. it just gets offered to them first. like he said we have a lot.of lazy guys. some will only run to ca and back, many of them actually. some may want more money, many wont tarp or go to certain areas.

i have done real good this week staying up north because 80% of the fleet is hiding out in the south
