I think Mercer requires one or the other. We also have customers that won't load if you don't have one.

flatbed, someone has crossed your wires up. when you are booked (dispatched on a load it is yours and cant be taken a way and cant be given back unless someone dies or the truck breaks down) heres how it works , you are lined up first by the guesstimated load times of trucks going into a given area, say you are number 5 on monday and are delivering on thursday, on loads that come up between monday and wednesday you can match yourself to them or commit( means i will dang sure take that load for sure) the 4 guys ahead of you will be offered the load first, if they turn it down you get it , if one takes it, you move up to number 4.

it isnt as complicated as it sounds, it just gives some order to the load process, also if you are number 1 and turn down a load , you remain number 1 until you take a load you like.

it seems it was explained to you wrong, or you misunderstood, as oscar said i have loads booked(dispatched) a week or so ahead

Thought SHC refused to haul anything over 10K or that required tarps or needed more than 2 straps. I think he likes to call himself a "Gentleman Trucker".

Good info. Is your $2 a mile gross or net? I mean before or after Mercer's cut? Can you haul broker freight if you know a good one, if you're stuck or you just want to, as long as the broker is approved?

    horsecrazychic22 Thanks this.

This post is directed to guys who are already leased to Mercer:

It's looking like I'm going to be approved to lease on to Mercer.
Chasity said she was just waiting on replies from my references and everything else looks good.
Some things she has said have me a little tentative about the move though.

    1) She says I have to put my headboard back on my trailer if I don't have a headache rack even though they're not required by law anymore.

    2) I took my 8' drop tarps off of my trailer a year ago and have been using a set of 4' drop tarps since and not sitting because of it. She says I have to carry around a minimum 6' drop set of tarps even if I never intend to use them.

    3) My trailer isn't specked to haul big coils and I don't really want to haul any coils to be honest yet she says I have to carry around the bunks, pads & timbers even if I don't use them.

I realize there is probably no way around the headboard issue but does the minimum equipment list only get enforced at orientation?

I don't like short overnight trips and would like to make an average of $4000.00/week while I'm out on the road hauling no more than 2 or maybe 3 loads per week. I'm used to having total control without a coordinator or dispatcher and am concerned that I may be too set in my ways to fit in to the Mercer system. Do the coordinators try to micromanage your truck?
I've seen some guys post that "they wish their coordinator would check with them before they book them a load". This will not fly with me. Can I fit in at Mercer or am I wasting both my time and theirs?
I quit another company when they decided that "their new computer system" could better plan my loads than I could.

i have been talking with chasity also. i have some of the same concerns. i have been booking my own loads so long i am nervous about it. i guess it comes down to how we gell with our cordinator. i just flat out wont do something if i dont want to and more i get pushed the harder i dig my heels into the dirt.

what are the options though? i have been with landstar and im not a fan. the agents have ruined that company. there isnt many places that will let you book your loads
