The reason they get trailers back is the same as anywhere , you can't guarantee someone success. Hey make stupid decisions, pick the wrong loads, and don't know how to run their business. Its odd how some of us seem to do well and others don't, wonder why?

Moglar, a while back you posted that mercer was a owner operator mill, why do you want to come here now?

Before I got on they always talked with me and the consistent stuff I always hear was how happy they were with the freedom and the atmosphere. About 3-4 guys I talked to had their own authority and said they make more money under Mercer. Now like others have said when it's slow at mercer it's typically slow industry wide. I've only been here two months and I like it so far, like I said phone convos with Spyder really helped me better understand the system. The only thing I think that would improve Mercer is allowing us to broker our own loads to take advantage of the spot market freight. Other than that it's a relaxed place to be.

I could be totally wrong but I think for the van side not only is their to much capacity and not enough freight but who's booking all those 1.10-1.45 pm freight? The few times I look a van freight that's all I see.

From reading countless other threads here that is pretty typical rates. This year for numerous reasons has been a trying one in all aspects of the industry.

Yea I keep reading about this being a down year industry wide and we all have to weather the storm. Being that I'm a new O/O this is all I know so I'm rolling with it learning how to survive.

I don't want to laugh at this stuff, but really?

First, it's probably time we split this thread into two. FB and Vans. We are two different divisions with separate rates and completely different freight lanes. To see the two arguing back and forth when neither really knows what the other is going through is simply ridiculous.

Second, for everyone to say this is a Mercer thing is a bit short sighted. Take a look around, LS rates are down and the are having a huge exodus with many drivers landing here over the last few months. RR Changed their rules about non terminal loads. SNI drivers will admit rates are down but the have a lot of drop n hook freight that helps keep them busy.

Point is it's not just us it's everyone. It's not just trucks, it's rail, air and sea too. At times like this you have two options in my book. Adapt and overcome or fail and whine about it. I choose to adapt.

BTW I'm still doing well enough that I'm seriously considering buying a new truck and putting a driver in this one. Adapt I say, adapt.
