Now just think about what your fuel mileage would be if you stopped driving like Mario Andretti

Play with different rpms, with different weights on the wagon. By experimenting, I've found that with a light load, I can let it dip just under 1300 and get well over 8. A heavy load and hills and I gotta keep it up just over 1400 to pull 6.7

My truck seems to be an anomaly, I get best fuel mileage around 64/65 mph when less than 40k on the deck, but over that and I get better around 68-70 mph.

That makes perfect sense, it's not an anomaly at all. It's all about the rpms. By speeding up, you are keeping the engine at the most efficient rpm for the additional load requirement. Depending on how your truck is geared, you could also try dropping speed and down shifting one gear to maintain that same rpm.

It's a cummins, so it likes the higher rpms anyway and I keep it around 1400-1450 in town feathering the fuel for whatever gear keeps me within 5 of the speed limit. At 64 it's around 1375 or so. I don't track it anymore, did for a little bit, dash is pretty accurate, so I started letting it do the work
