That's because enough dope is making it across so the cartels really don't need the hassle of setting up legal trucking companies yet.

i try and stay up north not unless it pays really good going south. then i'll just grab something decent to get me out of that area back to the good zone. i would rather grab something 1.50 mile than sit for a few days. that few days of sitting i could have done reloaded got out of the area and reloaded with another high paying load...

Rates are down all over. It isn't the trains taking the freight as they are down also ( I have seen lots of empty rail cars lately, even out west). DAT is reporting that rates are down across the board by as much as 5%. I was getting quotes from brokers in Denver at $.90 per mile! Rates in Phoenix crashed and West Texas has always been cheap. Now back in Florida and seeing rates at $1 per mile.

Looking at the load boards, there are some new brokers, like JJ Fr8, that undercutting even the large brokerage houses like CHR, TQL and UTI. Of course this isn't a good time of year for flatbed freight as we are heading into the winter months. But worse yet, even van and reefer loads are way down. Large retailers aren't ordering their normal Christmas stock, which is a bad sign. Our economy may be taking a nose dive into the ground.
