I was just wondering about an old motel in Ft Scott that MWD drivers stayed at in the 70s.
I drove for them in the late 70s . I didn't buy a dollar truck though, found another job that paid better.
But I needed a job and didn't have any road experience so they got me started in trucking.
I had to run team with the Dollar truckers, and none of them I was with really could show
me how they were actually getting equity in the truck. I met a lot of guys wanting to quit
out at the big truckstops in Ontario CA.
I just didnt want to be running team if I was to buy one
so I moved on myself.Chinatown Thanks this. -
The desk lady at that motel was kind of hard nosed but I got to know her a little,
and always wanted to go back there and see her again. She was used to truckers and had
an attitude, and not all that attractive but she had a pretty smile and was fun to talk to, and I just liked shootin the breeze with her.
I Never got back to Ft Scott, after i quit.Chinatown Thanks this. -
When I was there, there were truck tires high up in the trees. We were told there was a major flood and that's how the tires got up there.
Said the shop was under water and trucks in the shop were bobbing around.Blue jeans, TruckerPip and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
I remember Midwestern Dist.. It was gonna be the be all/ end all to all things bad in the trucking industry. I was 21 in 83’ there was one truck driver training school in Chicago. I signed up $2500 for two weeks. I lasted 3 days. Those fools knew nothing about trucking. I’d been driving a Heavy duty wrecker for 5 years and had towed more Tractor/Trailers through downtown Chicago than any teacher had driven a truck.2-3 of the”teachers” had worked at Mid.Dist. Failed and this is what they had left. They tried signing new drivers up to M.D. even they knew it was a scam. There were few or no drivers that paid off their lease and ended up with the truck. They just turned lease over to the next poor sap that had truck driver dreams.
Blue jeans, MidwestResident, TruckerPip and 2 others Thank this. -
The more things change......the more they remain the same. Weren't those the good old days of trucking? How could such a thing ever happen during that golden era? LolTruckerPip and Chinatown Thank this.
