Minimum Brake shoe thickness

    What's the minimum brake shoe thickness allowed on a CMV? I kept thinking it was 1/4" but I'm not 100% sure. Trailer was just DOT a few days ago so in theory it should be good but a DOT insp. is only worth the money you paid for it if a trooper from carrier inforcement does the inspection imho. Don't want to get thrown OOS for having shoes that are too thin.

    Minimum lining thickness is 1/4" or below the wear indicator on the linings. (3/16" for steer axle with continuous pad)

    Each brake shoe has only one pad (continuous), as opposed to 2 pads per shoe.

    My opinion, put new brakes on once a year. It's only about $200 bucks an axle to have it done, look to have it done when the shops have discounts and sales,write it off on your taxes. Peace of mind is priceless plus the inspector seeing the thick fat brake linings with their flashlight, leaning over the chassis frame is less likely to break out the creeper to get underneath and possible find other things.

    I could run mine for 3 years on a set of pads, you are far more likely to have to redo because of getting them oiled than wearing them out, and new brakes aren't immune to that.

    What happens when the pads get worn past the minimum thickness besides not being compliant? Drum thickness is also figured.

    I already know, just wondering how common the knowledge is.
