Monteagle Truckstop Isn't Open!

Gawd, I hope so...that place has been a pit for years. Didn't one of the big chains buy it?

 

I almost pulled into Monteagle the other day...kinda glad now that I didn't waste my time trying. I certainly hope a big chain didn't buy them out...I can't stand big chains and won't go to one if I have ANY other option.

FWIW, the Mapco at exit 24 (Pleasant View) is closing Sunday night for 30 days, too. Supposedly when they reopen, they'll have new pumps, new pavement, a restaurant, etc...but for the next month or so, I'll have to find another fuel stop.

 

Imagine my surprise when I pulled in there a few months ago and it was completely gone. I only liked that trashy hillbilly pit because I could always find a spot there, even late on a weeknight.

Also Crazy Ed's on I-75 x56 south of Knoxville. I pulled in there one morning for breakfast and it was gone. Although he had a huge sign up saying he was unplugging and re-tooling to better serve his customers. I drove by a few weeks ago and they are well under way with the new construction. Crazy Ed's also had a very nice cutlery/knife shop in there as well as fireworks and a really nice restaurant. Looking forward to the new place being finished.

 

Wow! I didn't know Ed's was down. Kinda glad, though...very old and worn-out. Restroom stalls were made for midgets. But the knife shop was pretty cool.

But I still hate the billboards...they just creep me out somehow!

Yup...I knew when I was through there the other day I remember seeing mention of one of the chains. I was thinking Petro, but you are correct sir...Wilco it is.

And if they have a Dunkin' Express, I'll get my coffee there....

 

Been a few years since I'd been down there, used to stop in there, for that reason also, I could almost always get a spot. I remember the waitress that always served me, she had no teeth and you could hardly understand her when she spoke because of it.

 

Yea that sounds about right! I remember one cute girl I used to always get as a waitress. She had teeth but there was just something odd about that girl.

Welcome to the south...wait till you get down to Georgia...WHEW!

 

I have always stopped at monteagle for breakfast when going thru and have time, got family nearby that i would call to come over and eat with. I had heard that love's had bought the place so i was surprised the other week coming thru when i saw the green fascia atop the pump canopy's.
