I might add, you only get 1 free shower with minimum 50 gallon purchase typically. Oftentimes, Swift will open you up for a 'fillup' at the station they send you to. So you think "OK, 150 gallons, 3 showers", nope just 1. So it got to the point I would buy less fuel than the fuel route told me to, like 65 or 75 gallons instead of a 'fillup'. This also kept me out of trouble when arriving for a heavy load, not having full tanks and possibly being overweight which did happen to me a couple times starting out. I always tried to empty out with about 3/8ths or at least no more than 5/8ths tanks. Once with 1/4 tanks, the beer loaders added more pallets to bring me to 79,000 pounds, I complained that I still needed fuel, they don't care. I had to get fuel every 250 miles. This I had to figure out on my own for this 1500 mile trip, the Swift fuel route kept telling me to top off lol. I'd roll into the fuel stop I'd aimed for (on fumes) and send a message needing fuel. My DM had been off for her weekend, I messaged in, she replied that I was 'in luck, they opened you up for fuel at the very place you're at'. I just rolled my eyes, she didn't know I'd done this twice the day before and once very early in the morning before she started her day lol.
Often times when I'm coming off hometime for several days, my showers have all expired. So to load up on them again, I do things like grabbing 50 gallons at shutdown then 50 gallons again at pretrip time. I might grab 50 gallons again about 4 hours later and take my shower then, then finish my day and still have 2 banked up showers on the card.
OK I'm logged in but cannot use the HOS yet. Diddled with some of the tutorials whatnot, seems pretty simple. Not liking the speaker thing, so pushed it til it was silent, but you can tell when it takes over that dedicated speaker. I see there is a way to cancel that out, so it uses it's own unit's speakers (if it has any), may try that later. Still no loads, and elog class is tomorrow at 1500. My luck, they'll send me a juicy load offer about 1400 lol.bill122250, Cochise and TooGroovy Thank this. -
Don't believe they will activate the HOS until you completed the class. I ran for 2 weeks on paper before mine started working. I was ignoring it because after some initial issues, they had me contact Qaulcom directly, told me my box was junk and would need to be replaced. Nver gopt near a terminal adn after awhile I decided to give it another shot and it worked.
On a side note I have Prostar and they didn't have to touch my upper bunk, just the side box and they emptied my fire extingusher.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Did the vendor dude say why it has to go on the dash?
-
Did the shop charge you the $48 bucks for a new one? Geez I wonder why I know how much they cost? lol
I said no choice, I meant no viable choice....- He did say he could hook it up and put it on the seat, but did not recommend that. This unit is pretty heavy for its size. He did assure me that it will stay mounted no matter the extreme vibrations the truck sometimes goes thru like when I ran down the rail road tracks only those 2 times which was pretty bouncy and some of my teeth loosened up. Now that I've seen the Choices video, I realize driving down the railroad tracks was a poor choice, but I was averse to performing a Uturn across a heavy traffic freeway with my 150 ounce super coffee cup which blocks all my vision while sipping. -
You'll be activated after you complete the E-log class today. It's going to be a bit more work because you'll be asked to run both (paper and E) for up to eight days. After your eighth day, you'll check in with a safety person (maybe call your home terminal safety guy/gal) and see if your E-logs are without error. If so, you'll be told that you can stop running paper. But keep paper logs with you just in case.scottied67 Thanks this.

I don't give a s*** whether it's set in concrete and as solid as Mt. Hood. I don't want it on my dash. "No viable choice" means he hasn't taken the time to figure it out. He can leave me the unit and mounting plate and let me do it myself. If there are going to be any holes drilled anywhere in that truck, I will be the one to do it.
Bad enough I have to go to elogs. Doesn't mean I have to have a screen staring at me all the time. I find that creepy.Cochise Thanks this. -
You might be on to something there. Rumor has it that the screen also doubles as a hidden camera to watch the driver all day (or night). The original idea was to monitor when the driver was sitting in the seat and immediately bring them down to On Duty Not Driving to prevent violations arising from sitting there and not in the sleeper. Now that the final rule has been established, the hidden camera will be used instead to check if the driver looks droopy eyed and is scanning their mirrors properly or muttering to themselves for 500 miles or doing some other nasty activity.

Does it have a Root Beer tap built in it too?
How bout a Coffee grinder?
Pee hole?
Man, I'm getting some lucrative business ideas here.
