In defense of Pikes Peak, you have to get off 25 to see it properly. If you've never had the chance to run CO83 between Colorado Springs and Parker (Denver), it runs up on a ridge and the view of the mountains is much better as you're looking from above the foothills.
This is from 8600' a couple blocks from the house a few weeks ago :
