RESPECTFULLY SPEAKING, I pray to the good Lord upstairs that you do NOT end up hitting, hurting, injuring, crippling, paralyzing, or killing somebody due to both your night driving and awareness issues.

I TRULY and GENUINELY both request and feel that you should give up PROFESSIONAL driving altogether to both save your own life and that of other people.

I TRULY and GENUINELY request that you call the Department of Transportation and see what they have to say about all this. Be sure to give 100% information concerning your night vision and awareness issues.

If the Department of Transportation feels that you can continue to do any type of professional for a living, then by golly, the absolute best of luck to you.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Took me four days to adjust from driving daytime to nighttime. Never actually had issues staying awake, more about going to sleep when I got home. Everyone should have some adjustment time frame AND pull over if you start getting sleepy.

No offence, if the OP can't adjust, this may not be the right line of work. It reminds me of the time I almost signed up with the Navy... Only to remember that I always had chronic sea-sickness.

There is a massive difference between needing a job and being fully capable to perform it safely.

Commercial driving is not for everyone.

Perhaps you could go back to Tampa FL working for that beer distributor. Eventually you could work your way up the ranks and continually earn yourself a decent living. MOST IMPORTANTLY, you will be away from commercial driving altogether.

    Good luck to you!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

i drive a straight truck class B, but i always kind of laugh when tractor trailers use pull ups, some guys take forever. its very annoying waiting for them so i can spin around and back up. i deliver milk, i like the job, it can be hard but i work in construction as well and delivering stuff with a dolly just isnt that intense. however work carefully and protect your back, i messed mine up a year ago and that was absolute hell getting it better but i stayed on the job and worked a lot smarter. i also like talking with the customers and messing around, it keeps me in a good pace and frame of mind while im working. i would not like sitting in a truck all day long, i dont know how you linehaul guys dont get so bored you drive into a wooded area just for fun, the longest drive i have on my route is an hour and i get beyond bored sitting in the truck.

Yes some of these customer docks werent designed for tractor trailers, a straight truck will get in easier at times, but when you drive through NYC with limited areas you get better at your backing skills with a trailer.

AT night linehaul we have a guy who has this thing on his phone and he can hold up to 15 people on his line talking... makes the night go by a lot faster. good thing to have a bluetooth

Must be nice to have others to talk to. Most of my friends are usually asleep when I am doing my turns. All of my coworkers are about twice my age and I don't have anything to really talk about with them aside from a quick question on the roads up ahead. The only one I really call is my old man back on the east coast. He is two time zones ahead and hasnt slept in past 4 AM since he left Vietnam. It's a dull ride most of the time. Even the CB is dead. When it isn't, I got the slowest truck on the road, so usually I don't get to talk to anyone for longer than five minutes.

Well all the guys I work with are all twice my age but I make due with it. Once you get to know people you can realize you got more in common. Theyve helped with weight loss, and other issues i got... Some of my friends from home usually work nights but cant really talk, but makes it good when im home to go out. The only time I dont talk to the guys from work is when the gf calls on her breaks from work (works midnights), if I miss that call im sure Ill be yelled at LOL

LOL. I got into driving so I DON'T have to talk to people most of the time. I dig the solitude and remoteness but then again, I always did play better alone.

For everyone else wondering what that is about, look up Che Guevara, and not using Wiki, they've tamed his story there. That is all I have to say without going all political, I will not be responding to this thread.
