My experience at holland enterprises

agreed — since I’ve been with Holland I’ve only had one tire blow out in Montana, outside of Missoula. I’ve never had a single mechanical with my tractor or any of the reefers I’ve pulled.

 

So it's kind of like an opti-idle, but without the temperature range restrictions and without the need to engage opti idle if you're sitting for several hours. Meaning there's not a range of 45-75 degrees where you can't use your heat or AC like most other opti idle units I've heard of do, but rather you can set a temperature in your SmartPack unit no matter what the temperature is outside.

Correct?

basically the park smart is used whenever you need to keep cool or warm in the sleeper. Opti idle is more to keep the batteries charged if parked for a full break. There is a comfort mode which starts & stops the engine for cooling but they prefer you don’t use it unless the bunk ac or heater quit. You won’t need opti idle if or when parked for a short time.


During orientation the guy in charge of the shop will go over the equipment. They are pretty thorough with that.

 

I think somebody said this already but it's like having opti idle except the AC still runs when the truck is off. I don't think I would mind that. When I started driving years ago I worked for Swift and used the opti idle without park smart. The truck was so quiet inside that usually it never even woke me up when the engine started. My only problem was it could get pretty warm in the truck before it started the engine. Wouldn't be a problem with park smart since the AC runs regardless of if the truck is running.

It’s a trucking company, not a beauty pageant.

 

I know this question wasn’t directed at me, however, it’s fair to point out that if you’re a runner at Holland you’ll have no issue taking more that the standard “one day, for every week out” model. I’ve personally ran 5 weeks and taken 7 days off without any questions asked. And, as always, Holland doesn’t count the day of when you arrive at your desired home time location.

 

Here is another example of the runs Holland has. The loads I’m posting are my next two preplans after I empty out in Ruther Glenn, VA this evening 7/22 @ 1700

First preplan: Pickup in Winchester, VA @ 1130 7/23 and deliver to Miami, FL @ 0630 7/25. Total miles — including empty — 1237 miles.

Second preplan: Pickup Bartow, FL 7/25 @ 2000 for a two stop —> One in Portland, OR, on 7/31 @ 0630 and final in Sumner, WA on 7/31 @ 1400. Total miles — including empty — 3445 plus extra stop pay.

This is a great example for those whom are interested in how loads are scheduled and the time on them.
