Are you still with Knight? I'm considering taking a job there to run a dedicated run PHX-ABQ-TX. I see that you don't have a fridge/micro, but do you know of any Knight drivers that do? I'm concerned that they don't allow inverters connected to the batteries. Do you happen to know if they keep drivers on the dedicated routes or that is just a way to get you interested?

Dedicated routes are hard to get. You won't get one unless you've worked for knight for a while.
You can't have an inverter hooked to your batteries. You will get terminated if caught with an inverter inside your truck that is high wattage. You can use a low wattage inverter for laptops, etc.
I have a Coleman cooler racheted down to my nightstand.
I'm still with Knight for now. -
OOPS... forgot to say. No, I do not have a microwave. No APU.

I am coming back out on the road--have been out for 9 years. I drove OTR before for a period of three years from 2000 to 2003. I drove for Arnold (booh), Barr-Nunn (yay), and Milan Express (terrible) finally doing local tri-state runs. I am attending a refresher course at a state accredited school where I got my class A CDL originally.
I am looking for a good company so I can run long haul OTR all 48 states and possibly Canada and had my eye on Knight--I always admired their equipment before.
I have read many of your posts here and am wondering???
You seem like my kind of person--a peaceful hippy, artist, musician who loves animals and therefore I feel I can trust your perspective. Plus, you obviously are very tolerant and practical.
Here is my story (brief): single for many years now: I have three adult daughters who live in: Ohio, Illinois, and Florida. I just finished an associate's degree and am tired of college. I need to pay down my student loan debt. And!! I want to go out west and east and south. I live in Ohio and I hate it, especially the city where I live--voted most depressed city in the US a couple of months ago, according to a scholarly study.
Getting back into trucking allows me to visit my daughters during home time on the company dime, live rent-free on the road, make lots of money with no bills to pay, except student loans and phone--plus I get to travel, write, and listen to NPR all the time.
I already know what it is like to be a trucker, at least what it was like back in the early 2000's. So, I have no delusions.
I finish my refresher April 6, 2012 and then I head off to ???? company to work. I am not finding very many companies that will hire people with no experience in the past 5 years. So, my choices are limited.
You sound pretty fed up with Knight.... Hmmmmm. Any suggestions? I cannot go back to Barr-Nunn for lack of current experience. What do you hear about Stevens?
Thanks.
Peace,

The "make lots of money" part had me cracking up, I couldn't help myself...
Jarhed1964 Thanks this. -
Well Smaggs what has happend to your truck with the regen & exhaust?
Get your break dowen pay? Had any more problems with the reimbursements? Or did your DM step up to the plate for you? -

I shouldn't have laughed, really..."lots" is a subjective term...but by MY "lots" meter, I know I won't make that in trucking.
-
you can make LOTS of money in trucking...just find a niche market or stop slamming doors. ##### food grade tankers pay good too (no doors there either) same with car haulers

I make 50 grand "slamming doors." Suits me just fine and I save lot's of money every week. Also have to add that I own a home and don't live in the truck. Why do people think you can't make money pulling a van or reefer? You just have to rid yourself of the junk mega value carrier market that Knight DEFINES.
Got my eye on hauling fuel in the future though.
