    Obviously not @Concorde I am new to the industry. What should I ask him? I haven’t made up my mind yet.

    I’ve been in industry for 24 years only had 2 companies take escrow, and i was leased on to them with my truck.

    Remember, his job is to get people in the trucks.
    If you’re happy, go for it, or read the bad companies tab here and see how many try the 1099 chicago companies.

    Siinman and TD3 Thank this.

    You pay taxes wether or not the employer deducts them from your check or you pay them so really no difference. You will be a contractor, so no workmans comp in case you get hurt on the job. You just need to set aside the taxes from your checks in order to pay them.

    Sounds to me like the dude is absolutely broke and needs money now.
    He'll regret his decision. Because at the end of the day, he'll still be broke and needing money now.
    Good luck, dude. You're gonna get screwed and, man, I hate it for you.

    Don’t do it! You’re hard up and you’re exactly what these vultures are looking for. You think you’ll get experience and walk away on your own terms, when the actuality is you’re going to get screwed every possible way they can screw you. There’s a reason they want an escrow; because they screw drivers and the drivers abandon the truck wherever they get fed up with the BS. Then, you’re further screwed, because the short employment tenure, abandonment of the equipment, and whatever other negative crap they put on your DAC. You’re so much better off going with a known, starter mega carrier.

    There are too many red flags in this job post to mention. So at the very least, if you do this;
    • have enough cash to get home from anywhere in the country.
    • Do not sign any contract, paper or any other form without reading it thoroughly and understanding it - otherwise walk away!
    • Do not pay for ANY operational expense with your money or credit card.
    • Do not violate the HOS or any other law/regulation to pick up or deliver even under threat of a "company fine"
    • Lastly - they are going to $cr3w you. So be smart and work in fast food for $20 hour until a decent legit job comes along

    wow. Thankyou. I think I’ll pass on the offer. I asked him some questions that @Judge told me to ask and the dude never answered me back yet. @Opus #### son. I’m not broke. Just got my CDL and looking for work. Wanted to get some perspective from
    You all before making my decision. This seems like a very bad option from the feedback I’ve gotten. I think I’ll pass.

    Get on with a reputable, stable company and run for a couple of years. Good 1099 companies are out there, but it shouldn't be your first job.
    Good luck
