Thanks for following, I know when I was looking for companies I always looked to posts like this for info.
Dallas isn't too bad of a terminal. Hotel is alright, you'll bunk with someone unless you wanna pay $15/night. Orientation is boring, you'll get lunch(you'll still be hungry lol) 90% of the trainers are on either dollar general or family dollar. You can help them unload if you choose but
your not required to. Dallas sucks for finding emptys. There always red tagged. The company isn't all that bad of your just starting out. There bs to deal with just like almost every company. What acount are you on ?

Soo update time!
A lot has changed since my last post. Run from Werner! Currently on a trip from las Vegas,nv-Spokane,wa.. 2 good days right? Il on my 3 rd and not there yet.. Why? My trucks needed a jump start every single day. Oh but wait there brand new batteries I begged for. They refuse to send ne to a thermoking to get the apu fixed wich is obviously not working right. Oh and too add to it, dispatch will not send me home thanksgiving. Why? I needed a jump start returning from hometime(big suprise).. This was at 5am my returning day. Told they'd be there 7am,8,10,noon,2,5,8...and finaly showed up at 10pm!! As tired as I was I still told them I was available, but night dispatch didn't give me a load. Therefore I went over my hometime(even tho I showed avail). After exchanging blows with dispatch I bit my tongue. Delt with it, and put in about 10 applications elsewhere. Atleast I'll have hometime for Christmas, and Werner will be getting a shiny new truck back for Christmas.
A few I applied for were Gordon,knight,central,marten.
Any input/ideas for others..6mo exp -

Ive been reading the thread and like the info. I live in las vegas and am in school in kingman arizona. i get out of school dec 20th (hopefully). Ive gotten a call from werner and swift so far. i also have apps in at schneider, us express and Watkins shepard.
This thread kind of scaring me away from werner, but if you read these boards i find all kinds of negative posts from all of the other starter companies as well. Kind of hard to make a decision on where to go. I suppose its what you make of it. I just want to work.
Swift or Werner... either one id be going to phoenix for orientation. Guess ill just have to flip a coin if no other offers come in. -
@jbrake; I went to 'ait' in Vegas. Where you going in kingman?
And honestly fresh outta school. Your not gunna get on with an awesome job. Everyone has there own experiences with all these companies and at any place your going to have some rough spots. Idk if schnieder is hiring out of Vegas tho. I guess just choose the one with the least bad reviews? Lol -
So i did some research online about truck schools and found one of the best schools in the country just down the road here in kingman arizona. They are the only school in the country that has 1 on 1 training anytime you are in the truck. The class im in has 3 students and maximum class size is 8. The name of school is Sage. Its located at Mohave Community College.
Anytime scheduled on range or road drives is just you and instructor. Im having a blast down here. Just went to DMV here today for our written tests for permit. I got all my endorsements including Hazmat. Ive had 3 range sessions so far and next drive will be a road session on Sunday. The cost was $4300 (About same as AIT). Ill be here till december 20th. Assuming i pass the skills and road test.
I dont commute back and forth to vegas, im staying in a hotel, so there is that added cost. But its well worth it. I was in casino buisness the last 15 years and just got tired of it. Ive gotten pre-hire letters from Werner, Swift, and Watkins&Shepard so far. Maybe when i get back to vegas we can hook up for a drink sometime and you can help me choose a company. I live in the NW part of town. Im rambling now so ill shut up. -
It really wasn't all that bad. The 4-5 in a truck wasn't true. I had 3 tops, and we devided 4 hours between us, 5 days a week. And when you seen the 30 guys in the class... There all at different 'levels' very confusing. After grants I'm only paying about 1200, but suprisingly Werner is paying that back for me. A lot of big companies will.

another update.
well my notice was put in about a week ago that im leaving werner. headed to conway, basically doubling my pay. been out 6 days since hometime, drove 2.5 days. weekend dispatch here is the biggest joke ever. almost every weekend at this company ive only ran weekends if i was already under a load. been waiting 14 hours for a load i was supposidly getting this morning. im only 2 hours from home(where i know personally theres 30+ loads sitting in our drop yard) so i said look dh me there so i can unload personal items from truck since my last day is in 4 days.. and i can get a load there. there reply was "if you deadhead there you will be responsible for fuel". my response was if i dont have a load by 8pm tonight im going home and thier truck will be here with the keys inside.
my exerience with werner has deff been a roller coaster. its been good, and its been horrible. im just glad to be out of here... well that is if i ever get a load. -
I know what you mean about weekend dispatch. Buzz is pretty much the only one that knows what he's doing, and that's a shame. When I was OTR I'd spend pretty much every weekend sitting at the Indianapolis terminal staring at the red light for 30-40 hours. I got a lot of reading done, and even took up weaving as a hobby. It is what you make of it.
