Normal load locks are pretty junk with top heavy pallets. Do a google search for Save-a-load load locks. They are expensive compared to the "normal" junk most giys run, but these will never fail and let a pallet tip. Even the light weight hoops Save-a-load sell look weak, but they hold a huge amount of weight. Put it to you this way...I can put a Save-a-load from wall to wall a foot off the floor, step on top of it, and it won't budge. By the way I weigh in at about 280 lbs.
My reefer experiences.

Lucked out. After all was said and done, only 22 cases ended up being damaged. Course, I've got blackberries all over my floor. Thme things are kind of hard to sweep, when there packed into the grooves.

PanhandleFlash had that happen to me with a Budweiser Load going into WVA. Literally turn the load lock into a U. The Distrubritor said I wasn't the first nor will be the last it happen too.

If the pallets fall backwards, they were loaded wrong. Every tall pallet will favor one way. A good forklift driver will catch that and turn the pallet forward or at least sidewards on the back two. I made a few turn pallets before.
Always keep the load locks high. One in the middle is useless. After you put the second one in, yank on the first to make sure it's tight still. Very rarely I used three and I never had a load fall. The trick is how it's loaded.
I've seen drivers put the top one in, then put one in the middle and not even check the top load lock again. They done pushed the wall out in the middle where it's weakest and the top one is loose again.
Load locks prevent the motion from starting, If something has room to move, then they are useless.
I'm sure you all know that. I just posted in case someone else reads this.Points South, BigJohn5665, Panhandle flash and 2 others Thank this. -

I been doing reefer work for about a year and a half now I like it. It pays better than the other jobs that were available in my area at the time by a whole lot. I haul our own products to grocery dcs as far west as Texas and then get backhaul home. Most times it's chicken I'm going home with unless I can get a load from one of our plants to take back home to our dc. The worst stop I've had in a while was last night at Kroger in va it took forever to get a door. But I'm done now and Harris teeter in Greensboro is a good stop they took my freight no questions asked when I was late. Wal Mart pageland sc tonight and that's usually good for us.
