colorado will stop u at every scale if u dont have it on the truck one thing u can do that a codot told me once in the scale is take a piece of paper and write the last 8 of the vin down hold it up when u go through the scale so they can see it then u dont have to go inside....but if u plan on running alot through CO then it is best just to have it lettered on the truck and yes it is pefectly leagal to put in on the tool box ours used to be on the fuel tanks now all our trucks have the info in the bottom corner of the bunk only reason why we did this is because it looks better green on black looks better then green on chrome lol

On the sign issue what i have seen is pretty right. only thing i question is the operated by and leased to. on out trucks our company name has operated by and the company signs say leased to as we own and operate the truck not them it is only leased to them. and that was done only because the place we leased to required it before we just had owned by and our company name than on the bunk had the company we leased on with signs....they made us change it to operated by our company and leased to them...

Definitely check with your state DOT people. Each state has it's own requirements, so it's best to check with them.

I got a citation in Oklahoma last week for unlawfully operating a commercial vehicle with inadequate signage. My company had put blue Leased To decals on my blue truck, so got busted for not being a contrasting color. The ticket was $175. Ran up to Petro Joplin and paid $154 for two custom decals I had made up and put on myself as my company doesn't have any more Leased To decals handy.

Check the states you run in. I know some of them still require the city and state. PA did a sweep looking for city and state last year and nailed alot of carriers for not haveing them on the truck.

As a PUC certificated carrier, you are required to mark your vehicles with the name of
the carrier, city, state, and the PUC-A#. The vehicle must be marked on both sides in
letters no less than 2 inches high by ½ inch in width. Carriers that are registered with
the Unified Carrier Registration Act (UCRA) and display a US DOT# are exempt from
this requirement -
Used to show a phone number until a couple of morons called-in on me; I had to reprimand myself!
I didn't think about a unit number until I read other posts...RedForeman Thanks this. -

My sign guy is about to make me up another set. $170 installed, same as the last. Company name, city, state on the doors, truck number on the front fender, USDOT, last 8 of VIN, GVW on the toolbox doors. No complaints from the first two, so I'm sticking with what works. It's not like they're charging me by the letter anyway. I supplied my own artwork in Adobe Illustrator format, so it's not like they had to a great deal of work to lay it out on a template.
scottied67: I've often wondered about poor contrast lettering. For once I get to let someone else be the lighthouse LOL. Mine aren't that way (red trucks, yellow letters with black outlines). But I have seen a lot of trucks out on the road with black letters on dark blue paint, etc. Yours takes the cake though - same color lettering LOL. Surely had to be a WTF moment when you stuck them on?scottied67 Thanks this.
