I have been transporting haz loads, I'm just trying to figure out the do's an no's. An what I should do, Im going to return Monday an have an actually discussion with the boss. I just thought I read in the cdl book that it was the companies responsibility to train there employees in hazmat. Any ways I work 60 hours a week mon-fri 4pm-4am however I'm working 60+ the most you can drive is 12 hrs a day correct? But you can go up to 14 due to traffic/weather correct? And I'll be done with my routes an they'll ask me to stay an help the yard spotter, an im either at 12 or 13.5 driving already. I'm not trying to play the victim I'm just trying to educate myself an get advice from my fellow truckers. An just want to say thanks from previous an future posters
Need advice quickly

i believe you're allow 11 hours driving and 14 hours on duty. So drive 11 hours a 3 hours non driving. But when i was doing local i was allow 12 hours under a 150 air radius without filling logbooks. I think it's different between local/otr or regional driving
if im wrong someone please correct me -
I think the big flaming red flag is the trucks don't have inspection stickers.
Run the trucks like you've got a trailer full of meth, a dead hooker in the bunk and a smoking gun in the glove box. ("nothing to see here officer as I drive 5 mph below the speed limit and stop at every yellow light!")
Get some apps out to other companies and get out ASAP.
Unfortunately it will reflect bad on you if you leave an outfit too soon. So don't jump too quick but if you leave inside of 3 months just don't even list them on your resume.Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
GOSH,sound like the company I worked at in KC.Sure your in Chicago and not North Kansas City? Well lets stick to the OP. Always carry Hazmat book with you. YES ITS A TICKET IF you dont have it with you. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CORRECT PLACARDS. Wrong placards is a big ### ticket. Dont haul corrosive with flammable? By all secure hazmat with e straps and or load locks. IF AND WHEN they jerk you in a scale house BE READY. have hazmat bills on top of other bills preferable in drivers door pocket(check for hazmat tabs on bills) Make sure weight and description on bills match what you really pick up! Dont dodge the scales

You need to get out, way too many violations to even list here, but on too of the logging issues, the haz mat issues, and the dot issues, it sounds like you're working 14 hours and only getting paid for 12, assuming you are paid hourly, highly suggest you run for the nearest hill and stay away from this company

I do believe that on a local, if you stay within the 100 air miles radius you can work/drive for the full 14. Local normally drive a short while, drop and hook or deliver or pick up then repeat. As I remember it this allows you to go the full 14, be it driving or working or both. Although, within the 100 air miles you dont have to do a log unless you exceed I believe its 11.5 or 12 hours, although many carriers require a log period. Could this be the case?

Yes, I didnt catch original post saying 150 air miles. Its 100 air miles and like you said companies all I believe require a log for DOT audits. To me working 14 getting paid for 12 is BS. I would have to take a stand on that.Dont let them abuse you.Ive been thru that(they want you to shag trailers around for 2 hours when you get done with your route.Tell them to hire a hostler. Were just talking here but your the one whos CDL is on the line. I would also stop every 2 hours for 15 minutes logged and show that you checked your tires(hauling flammable) no smoking cigs of course.Be careful some of the freight u pu may or may not be weighed or labeled right.Dont take shortcuts thru densely populated areas. Some shippers will cross dock hazmat and try to act dumb to avoid the extra delivery charge.Picked up anhydrous ethel alcohol once in the caves and shipper didnt know what placards was. Got my boss to bring me placards and chew their butt. Get this you can haul car batteries without placards if the shipper is hauling them as scrap and licensed recycler crazy huh. Dont speed . If safety violations (ie no inspection sticker, permit, burned brake light etc. dont pick it up. Get another trailer.Fines are large for hazmat drivers so make sure EVERTHING is legal and right. Yeah the training is usually a short film and 25 or 35 multiple choice test(which they probably give you the answers to.I know it sucks how some cos just throw you out there they done that to me. I learned real quick with hazmat because you dont want to lose your cdl or pay massive fines. Just study up on it on a day off. Best of hope be safe.

Sorry almost forgot. DONT LEAVE HAZMAT TRAILER UNATTENDED (ie going into Wendys etc)

In Illinois driving a truck WO inspection causes you to lose lisc and retake test. My instructor told me that, don't know if its true. That would mean renting a truck. Hazamt 250 to 2500 fine for each side incorrectly placard. Only front of tractor needs to be placard. You need route plan and oh #### contact numbers within arms reach.
If the hazmat material is below the amount needed for plCarding, do you need to stop at rail road tracks?
Inspection costs, what a 100 dollars? -
