I left Western Express after 3 months and went to Schneider. I don’t regret it at all. There are a few things I liked better at Western, but overall I’m having a much better experience with my new position. I’d recommend Schneider.
You deserve good pay and conditions if you sort carefully through the options, get qualified, and work smart at places that pay well and treat you well. If you just sign up with a random company you know nothing about and see what happens when you get there you get exactly what that company provides whether it is enough pay or good conditions or not. I just described the formula to become a job-hopper. You don't deserve something just because you show up. You signed up for trucking, trucking is exempt from even minimum-wage laws and overtime.
I didn't heard anything good about US Xpress. It's like Western Express after US Xpress merged. I had applied to all these companies maybe around two weeks ago. I don't know anything I'm new to this. That's why I asked for suggestions cause there's many knowledgeable & experienced people here. Should I stay here for a little longer or Should I keep job hopping for better opportunity ? And if yes then where to go now ?
You can't be sure that going to a different company will get you anything better right now. This is the slowest time of the year in trucking. The grass is not always greener once you get past the empty promises.
Talk to current drivers at the company before you work for that company. Reading company web pages is like watching a commercial. It only tells you what the company wants you to know, not the reality. Even this forum can't replace the info from current working drivers at the company. Ask the company to have 2 different drivers doing OTR, or what you want to contact you and ask them to describe weekly pay & miles, schedules, equipment, whatever you need to know. Don't tell them what pay & miles, etc you hope to get until they give their numbers to you. Job hopping will limit your access to better companies. Don't change companies until you have all the answers you need.
One thing wrong with that advice, and I see it (that advice) all the time. Asking a company to provide names for a reference. Those drivers will be hand picked, if they are even actual drivers. You never know who you will be speaking with, or how honest they will be.
You think everyone else is treated better than you are now? I don’t know what you claim as bad on how they treat drivers but I think you may be expecting some hand holding. you already have the mentality about miles. as I said before, it is not the time to move. You are setting yourself up to fail as a driver, focus on driving, learning the skills that allow you to become marketable. I am turning down drivers with clean records and finding better ones at every turn, these other ones have better skills and some bring more than driving to the fleet. This is where the real money is made, skills beyond driving but right now this is a carriers market, only the bottom feeders will find space for marginal and new drivers.
I understand what you're trying to say. But it isn't about the miles. It's about some decent pay to pay your bills & save some. No one pays good money unless you're experienced and skilled. Just driving can take you far to a certain extent, you need skills. But in order to pay you need money and if you're not driving how will you make money sitting in the truck, I hope you know that. I'll stick with this one. And as for your "Hand Holding" it might be true. I thought it's nice to ask for suggestions & ask for help if you don't know anything. But nevermind. Thankyou all for your time & help.
