It means that any driving you do while it’s red will be a DOT violation. What does the off duty/sleeper time show?

D.Tibbitt, bzinger and Leodrives Thank this.

You didn't give them your real name did you? Just kidding. What ELD are you using. All ELDs accomplish the same thing, but they don't all look alike. Your 14 hour clock is always counting down after your first On-Duty event of the day. If you stay Off-Duty or Sleeper long enough those hours spent OD or S should be added back to your 14 clock. Different ELDs show that is different ways.

    Siinman and spindrift Thank this.

So if I have 16 hours off duty I will have 16 hours added back in to my 14 hour clock?
Cool, but it doesn't work like that.

It simply means that you have not had enough time in off-duty/sleeper status to reset your 14 hour clock.

I think he's talking about a split sleeper. At least that's the only thing that makes sense to me.
