Just passed my CDL test this week.

My MVR has a 57/35 from August 2022, nearly exactly 2 years ago. Otherwise clean driving record. The ticket was incurred by my son who had borrowed my car for the day. He was caught by a speed camera, so it went to my record.

At the time I just paid it. Scolded my son. He has slowed down since, his only offense. He was 18 then.

The driving academy said this would not be a problem when they reviewed my MVR when I signed up.

First company I talked with said this is a huge red flag, to my surprise. So I filed a motion to vacate online per the court clerks recommendation.

I also have scheduled a consultation with a lawyer referred to me by the Oregon Bar Association.

This was in Oregon, where I am still located.

I am wondering if this is going to be a complete show stopper now. I had discussed it with driving school before I enrolled. They assured me it was a nonissue but now it appears that is not the case.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Yes, I should have contested it back then but too late for that now.

    Thanks!

Unless things are done differently in Oregon, camera tickets don’t go on your driving record.

Have you even pulled your driving record ?

Yes I have and it shows.

I pulled my MVR to enroll in CDL school. I thought speed camera stuff didn't go on my record which is why I simply paid it at the time.

Man - hadn’t even considered the speed camera issue.

Yeah - see if you can have that removed. Or shifted to your son’s record. 15+ tickets are bad news for CDL.

Since the 22-over speeding ticket is prior to your CDL, it's not as bad, but it's still bad. 15 mph over the speed limit is considered reckless driving, regardless of what the cops write on the ticket in your state once you have a CDL. The trucking company insurance companies consider it reckless driving and it's about as bad as a DUI. THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. The industry is very slow right now.

I would see about suing the CDL school. They knew this would materially limit your ability to find work but make money for the CDL school if you enrolled. This is isn't a close call or a judgment call.

    @robatsu may be screwed..

“Non-moving violations — parking tickets, for example — don't go on your driving record. Neither do camera citations. If your state — California, Oregon and Arizona — treats photo tickets as moving violations, though, they might go on your driving record.Jul 13, 2023”

Red Light Cameras, Speeding Cameras and Car Insurance Rates - QuoteWizard.

Was just a quick search but you should probably look into it more. That ticket is really going to handicap you for awhile if it stays on your record. Oregon, is 3-10 years on your record depending on severity.

    Good luck.

Western Express recruiter called today. I asked her about it, she said she saw it on my application, not an issue.

If you don't get any other offers from others take WE up on their offer so you can gain your experience. It was my first gig almost 2 decades. I appreciated them giving me the opportunity and learn a lot in the flatbed division. All the best to you on your journey

OTR is the experience I would like to get initially.

All the places I applied asked about military experience, which I have. Is this a significant plus in the industry?

i have gotten positive emails/texts from recruiters at the 4 places I applied to this morning. And just hitting lunchtime here.

And I fully disclosed the speeding violation along with commentary about the circumstances and that I have filed a motion to vacate.

Covenant scheduled me for an onboarding operation for Monday.

    So I am somewhat encouraged.

Filled out apps fir about 6 OTR companies.

Nearly all of the had a recruiter respond fairly quickly with a message like “reviewed your app, would love to talk to you”. Another in addition to WE said they want to make me an offer and have me join their team.

That is encouraging. I am assuming that they review your driving history for things that would disqualify you before responding positively.
