It's the difference between the rules for EOBR's and ELD's.

Yard moves are still ON DUTY, if you don't want to count it as driving.

I agree, it is a fustercluck. We will end up having yard jockeys moving tralers into docks to prevent drivers from going to "on duty" status. The mega's will not care, the drivers get paid by the mile.

Huh? How is a truck sitting many additional hours good for the carrier, irrespective of how the driver is paid? But going back to the other part. No, getting yard jockeys to move trailers is not going to happen. Besides. How the hell are you going to drop a trailer so the yard truck can hook up, without going on duty? So once on duty you may as well hit the dock.

On duty prevents the violation and fines. How much is the fine to a carrier when a driver is shown to have been on the drive line illegally out of hours? $11,000 per occurence?

Fair enough but if they're going to miss an $8,000 load of seafood and lose reputation with a broker, you take your chances.

So what I'm seeing here is people using the current standard for electronic logs have been cheating? I thought only paper-loggers were cheaters...

Buy a two foot long DB-15 extension cable with a male end and a female end. Plug one end into the Qualcomm unit and the other end into the Qualcomm DB-15 cable. Let the cable ends poke out from under the bunk so you can disconnect/reconnect when you want. But be forewarned. When you go off duty in one location and on duty in another an audit will catch you.
