If it triggers every single small move. That means going from a parking spot to the dock is going to put you in violation and force you to start you're break over again.

Think about all the little violations where you had to start a 10 over again. If they are caught by DOT they fall under the "Fatigued" basic under CSA. Drivers and Carriers will be hard hit by these violations. Carriers could have their authority threatened by conditional ratings or worse. Carriers will simply fire drivers and no other carriers will hire drivers with Fatigued violations. It's a lose lose all around.

I also think hell has had a way of breaking out anyway, witness recent troubles in some of our cities.
The only way I think about this whole ELD problem is two workarounds.
Never maxing out your possible driving hours at a time. Say do 9 hours then stop, keeping two more hours in reserve against problems that require you to move.
The second would have to be a provision that has implemented a place somewhere in the system itself a sort of a line 6 that is either personal conveyance or a form of yard or necessary short moves everyone spoke of.
Im beginning to think the laws related to rest is getting ridiculous. If a trucker has to get up half way in the prescribed sleep period to take care of nature call or fix hydrate or snack etc will that driver have to retake the entire 10 hour or whatever block of more time before being legal again to drive?
As far as the fears of motor carriers not being given freight for excessively fatigued drivers, I say it's about time that lie is brought to light of day. Half of my employment record is compromised of companies that created a sitaution where I put lives in danger falling asleep due to excessive hours. It is just as well some of these companies no longer exist in the industry.poppapump1332 Thanks this. -
If you get up and leave your sleeper berth to use a restroom, you are not in sleeper. Start your 10 all over!

What about the reefer guys where are in line to get a washout but run out of legal time waiting..... Creeping up to the washbay minus 5 miles per hour. Then there is no parking within 10 miles of the washout. So the driver has to forfeit tomorrow's load due to no washout because staying compliant with the regs is paramount.
We need @Cowpie up in here! lolpoppapump1332 Thanks this. -

If they can't load a truck load a truck on time,. Then we can't deliver on time.
We might make more money with ELDs because they will have to load and unload faster in a reasonable time. All the mega carriers can't afford to have a truck sit 6 hours at tbe dock. Then only drive 6 and stop because the driver is out of hours for the day.
They will be forced to may more per time or detention pay or just load and unload the trucks faster so the driver can actually drive and make money.
Walmart has that new policy if a load is late or early they will be penalized the shipper. The shipper can solve that problem just by loading the truck on time. Because with ELDs they now have to give drivers enough time to do the run legally.
Why should we as drivers be on call 24/7 when we don't even get paid ? If they want to pay I'll sit at loading dock all day making money.roshea Thanks this.
