"I would go L/O, O/O if..." "I wanted to spend every waking minute of my free time calculating every expense, saving every receipt, finding the right accountant, worrying about the next repair bill, figuring every fuel stop against the next and this or that pay period..." - Moosetek13, said. OMG! That nailed it! However...as insane as it is to triple your stress levels, double your blood pressure, and turn your perfectly ordered life, completely upside down. Its a captain and the ship he sails on. That ship either makes it and goes on, or sinks and he goes down with it. But either sun or rain, feast or famine, good and bad, that ship is his constant companion, and with heart, soul and determination, that ship is going to sail him to many new ports and back home again. Popeye, try everything, leave your mind open to the possiblities that await. Some may say 'nay' while others 'yea', its all up to you and what you choose to believe to make a reality come true.
This is my question. I'm sure some do. I would love to hear real world numbers. I've had the urge to buy a truck, but I keep talking myself out of it.
I just know there's a lot of headache and expense, if i was to get hurt or anything happened where i was out of work for awhile those payments still have to be made. We were given a packet yesterday and it averaged for most trucks $800 a week for lease and insurancse not including optional things plus you have maintenance, fuel etc, for a 800+ mile run swift only pays $0.82 a mile, not sure if all the headache is worth it or not
Think that you got some bad info. .82/mi is empty mile pay. It is .92 and up for loaded miles. If something was do happen, Swift is very good at helping out if you fall behind, such as very ill. Somtimes you need the correct info from us that are in this already.
It might be $800 a week for the first 6 months due to a driver financing the down payment and bond at $100 and $50 respectively. Once those are paid the payment drops usually around $645 - $675 or so. Otherwise the driver can put up the down payment and bond up front.
from what I heard you get a rebate on fuel or so much added on your pay per mile for fuel but others can answer that better since I tend to get mixed info @ bisqueek I must of just read the paper wrong or they only listed the deadhead rate, I will have to check my paper again.
This disturbs me ... why are they even giving students information about leasing? They have enough going on learning to drive, much less worrying about whether or not to lease. I swear we're starting to become more like CRE ... pushing prepaid law and putting leasing out to students.
It took me 6 months just to get confortable with trucking in general, another 6 to understand swift procedures, inside info ( like finding empty trailers, important numbers to people that can help me quickly, etc). Running your own truck is a whole differrent world all together. Like all things in life, take baby steps, and build upon yesterdays succsess. learn, learn, learn, learn. And whrn your done, learn some more.
