I have used AVG for years now and so far so good on not getting any malware, viruses and trojans. Couldn't say that about Mcafee and some of the bigger name protectors out there.

That you know of. I'm convinced every computer in the world has at least a few "malware" programs of on degree or another. Malware and other trojan/virus writers are literally on every corner. For every one a software security firm detects and thwarts, 6 more are introduced that slip past the AV "shield". Things have changed a lot in the last 5 years.

I'm not anti AV. They can protect against many more common threats to security and privacy, but to rely on them to allow you to safely surf any/every site out there is naive at best.

No truer words than the "That you know of.", as STexan posted.

Altho you run what you consider to be an effective anti-virus/anti-malware program, what the original article/post eludes to, is the real/hidden threat of what they call "backdoors" which can be easily built into the program by 'influenced' antivirus software companies, or the firmware/hardware manufacturers. It's all about what is going on in your pc, tablet, or phone when that virus/malware warning alert is silent as a mouse, and while you're unaware that megabytes/gigabytes of your personal date being fed out the "backdoor" straight into the hands of the software/hardware company.

As long as any human being can be influenced or 'persuaded' by money or power, no hardware or software company can be guaranteed to be as 'trustworthy' as they'd have you believe.
Do I run antivirus/anti-malware? Yes, I use it mainly to combat the hundreds of thousands of 'known' malware (and growing wildly minute by minute) that is in circulation across the web. But I also realize that both hardware and software corps are capable of sneaking things out of your pc, without the user knowing.

They claim it is only active on machines that are in some form of islamist research. By those words then, it sounds as if everyone has it and it just needs a command to become active. Nice world we live in. huh?

That's it...I'm converting to Amish...no one will try to hack my horse or buggy....:biggrin_25517:..does anyone have any good Amish transportation companies?

Honestly...it's the government...not that I am a conspiracy nut-job, but they listen....hell, Samsung's TV's snoop on you, why would it be so hard to believe that the government's intelligence departments aren't keeping detailed records and computer scanning anything we do since technology has made it sooooooo easy for them to do it.

Samsung TV's listen as it is trying to understand you in voice mode. Plug it into a power strip and truly turn it off. Problem solved. As to an Amish life, I think you will find it harder to deal with than Tim Allen did.
