Morning guys ! New to the forum . About to be starting a new career path . I’ve hauled 3 temp trailers , dry van and bulk milk tankers but had a friend reach out telling me about a job hauling food grade bulk flour . The pay is .. pretty good . Looking for any tips or tricks or things I should look for . Also what gear you reccomend I pack with me such as tools to make the job easier planing on a rain coat and some muck boots for crappy weather . I’m excited for the change just looking for some first hand experience ! Thanks all

Been a few years, but I've hauled many loads of bulk flour to places like BisQuik.
If the company doesn't issue one, then invest in a sturdy rubber mallet. Don't be caught using a metal mallet.
The rubber mallet, tapping on the tank while it unloads, will ensure all the flour is pumped out and none sticking on the sides, inside the tanker trailer. You'll know no flour is stuck when you hear a hollow sound while tapping with the rubber mallet.
That's the best I can give, since it's been a few years since hauling bulk flour.Last edited: Dec 18, 2023
tscottme, DannyB, Albertaflatbed and 1 other person Thank this. -
A good rubber mallet, preferably wrap a sock around the end of it if you want to keep the trailers looking nice.
A good set of hearing protection. I wore some earmuffs, can’t recall the brand. The old timers will poke fun at you but I feel like being able to hear later in life could be important.
Make sure you have spare seals (rubber rings) that go inside your fittings.
When you pull your hoses out of the tubes never let the metal end drop onto the ground.RockinChair, Freddy57, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
I noticed the guy in the video was using a rock to lock the locking tabs on the hoses. Use the rubber mallet for that chore also.
Sometimes you can lock the tabs with your hands if you jiggle the hose a little to get proper allignment. -
Heck yeah thank you all ! This exactly the stuff I’m looking to read . Related to the rubber mallet checking for stuck product . Is the tapping with the mallet enough to free up the stuck flour (in this case) or is it just an indicator that you do infact have some stuck ?

The tapping on the side of the trailer will cause any flour that's stuck on the inside to slide down to the bottom. This way, there's no flour left inside the trailer when unloading is complete. Sometimes the hose will jump when the trailer is empty because there's no more weight inside the hose.

If you carry a small piece if sandpaper and run it around the groove on the male connection, the cam locks usually lock with the palm of your hand.
RockinChair, zipsnlbs and Chinatown Thank this. -
I threw a wire brush in my back pack I had laying around I was thinking that would be handy for that as well , I will toss some sandpaper in the bag too !
RockinChair, trucknguy and Chinatown Thank this. -
Mask or respirator. That dust is a killer.
