Everett obviously is not the one responsible for the maintenance and associated costs on the reefer units, and is not concerned about trade-in value given he's likely to put as much as twice the number of hours as necessary on a unit over it's time spent with him/her.
A typical new to 3 year old unit won't have any problem starting at 10-15 degrees F barring any issues with battery or starter or bad fuel, or just an old engine with poor compression. Most will start ok at 5 degrees, but anything less then 15 degrees (long term], anything can happen so proceed at your own discretion.jac714 Thanks this. -
Doing fine, the reefer part was easier than I thought other than that it is just another truck with an extra fuel tank.scottlav46 Thanks this.

On hometime for the next few days. Been all over the country pulling a bunch of different loads from "dry" to heated to frozen. I think I am finally used to the sound of the reefer running at night. I am getting a bunch of miles and making good money.
Lessors is a good company that I am enjoying working for, the routes are interesting and I am happy there.
Thanks for all the help and hints.scottlav46 Thanks this. -

Was trying to find the right thread to post this i've read some posts on truck and trailer empty weights and also fuel economy rates. Q1. what would be the lightest tractor out there fully fueled? Q2 what would be the lightest reefer trailer on the market ? Peterbilt used their 579, powered by a Cummins ISX15 engine to achieve 10.7 mpg during testing between Denton TX, and Vernon TX. The 312-mile route was the same one used two years ago, when the first version of the Cummins-Peterbilt SuperTruck averaged just under 10 mpg. The testing in both instances was conducted on a round-trip basis, to negate any wind advantage that might have been gained by traveling one way, and each tractor-trailer had a combined gross weight of 65,000 lb running at 64 mph. I'm wondering what the mpg would be hauling 79,000 lb running at 75mph?
