We get paid for a certain number of miles, which is usually less than we actually drive by 5-15%.
Taking a longer way would not really make sense unless it did the trip in less time. -
Makes sense. I use to get paid odometer miles so the long way made more sense. That's why I was saying just do what they want.

my 2 cents worth on fueling - I've skipped several fuel stops then just asked for fuel when I need it. So far, no issues.

I do the same thing quite often.
Just make sure you have an approved fuel stop where you will want it.
One time I had to get fuel, but there was no place in the Swift network near enough. I had to get an advance for the money.
I got the receipt to scan in, but didn't read it closely enough. It said I had purchased $125 dollars worth of unleaded gas.
Since you can't power a truck with unleaded gas, I never got reimbursed for it. I ate the cost.
So, also, READ that receipt when they hand it to you! -
The carrier cannot account for the IFTA taxes with gasoline in diesel powered equipment, that's why they would not reimburse.
