Hello my name is Andre and need help quick. I was accepted at Stevens, but now they changed their rules this month that only Texas residents can attend their school. So out of state students will need to complete a school on their own and come in with a CDL. Now I need advice on what to do now. Im looking for a good company to go with, and only choices I have is Swift, Prime, CR England, Roehl, Central Refrigerated, Driver Solutions, and CRST. I dont know any other company that would hire me without a CDL. And the way things are right now I cant pay a school on my own. What should I do??

There really is no good starting companies. Just look at the ones that best suit your needs and give it a shot. I would steer clear from england, and crst if I were you.

Unless your credit is really bad,you should be able to finance your tuition.Ask the schools about it.Also check with your state's employment office. Some states occasionally have money for job training.IMO,you're better off paying for school yourself. That way you don't have to owe anybody a year or two of your life.Ask different companies about their tuition reimbursement.Last I checked, the company I drive for pays $150/month reimbursement, and if you stay a year with them, they stroke a check for the balance.

If you go to CR England's web site you just might get in FREE...I know someone that is there now....He got in Free...

There is NO such thing as free training. All companies that train are getting paid. Just not all are being paid directly by the student. Start by understanding that. You are looking to start in an industry that needs workers. I for one am getting old and need to be replaced.
The government has programs that pay these companies to train folks. Why do you think there is a $16 trillion debt? If you do not have the money right now to pay for school ask your state folks to get it for you. Community Colleges usually have connections with a trucking school. http://www.dds.ga.gov/commercial/cdlschoollist.aspx That is a link to the CDL schools in Georgia. I found it by using Google. Go there look at the techical schools. Call them and ask about financial aid. It is their job to find it. Let them work for you.
When you get your CDL remember you have something of value. Act like it.RoadDriver -Andre Thanks this. -
Find a driving school that is at least 160 hrs, look up on line to see which ones are in the top 3 or 4, remember when it comes to CDL schools, you get what you pay for, and alot of the carriers will offer to pay you back for your cost for school, up to $6,000 so with that in mind, that should tell you what the starting price is for a top rated school, ask about class size, and the careers that your instructors had means alot, because the class size will tell you how much seat time you get. I went to Roadmaster Driving School Inc. in Orlando, Great school!!!!! All my instructors were 1,000,000,000 plus mile guys with spotless MVR's. If there is a Roadmaster close to you, I would give them a call, But look into all your local schools to see who fits your needs best.

Um...I'm sorry to argue your point but you are incorrect. My husband also was offered, by CR England, to attend their school FOR FREE- not using his GI Bill; they offer FREE schooling to *ALL* prior military with an honorable discharge. Call their number (800) 421-9004 and your call will be routed to the recruiter in your district, and then ask them about it. The only reason that we didn't choose them (they came HIGHLY recommended by my brother in law who has been driving for 20 years) is because they are HIGH O/O pressure and we're not interested in that, they offer A LOT of miles, but not many regional routes, they do have dedicated routes, but they're hard to come by. If those things are not a priority to you, and you don't mind a lot of time away from home and LTO is also a consideration for you, then I would say research what other drivers have to say about them- we have heard a lot of good things.RoadDriver -Andre Thanks this.
