A few more tips. Keep a can of Clindo or Windex with you. Wintertime means dirty windows-and dirty lights. Keep the mirrors, headlights and windows clean so you can see. Keep the marker lights and taillights clean so you can be seen. Dirt and salt build up on the lenses, so it's smart to make sure every light is visable, and those dirty mirrors make driving in snow hard to see around you. Also, hey rest before you drive. You must be vigilant in all driving conditions and even moreso in winter because of the additional hazards. Being alert and awake makes you a safer driver. Lots of drivers like to play Witt their phones while they drive anymore. Don't do that. 100% of your attention has to be on the road. Your truck will make different sounds on the ice. When driving through snow or freezing rain, turn down the stereo. Drop your speed and turn off the cruise. Listen to the road. Also, just like any other season, wipers on, lights on. It's all about seeing and being seen. And just because a FedEx set of doubled is doing 75+ mph in a snowstorm in Wyoming doesn't mean you can do it.
Newbies!!! It's almost winter!!! Here's some tips.

The windshield wipers turn into a 14 inch swatch of pure ice, so use your defrost on full blast hot. I'm gonna get a small hair dryer and mount it to blow directly on the windshield as well this winter, will update with the results.
Couple of winters ago, they were big on selling these windshield wipers that you plug into your cigarette lighter but I guess the concept didn't take off because I never saw them for sale last winter. -
after driving snowplow last year, your better off either getting a couple of 5" fans to blow on the windshield or get it cold enough stuff doesn't melt.scottied67 Thanks this. -
Watch your speed on ramps that have tight turns. If your going to fast and the truck breaks loose even just a little the trailer can push you into a jack knife.

pick yourself up some Diesel 911, a fuel filter, fuel filter wrench and learn how to change that fuel filter. It may end up saving your life.

Do not forget to drain your air tanks ,,yes I know you have an air dryer, but you know what that can and will someday fail,,you might also want to keep some air dryer handy,,and yes I know its cold out but if your truck is set up right you have a little cord to pull to drain the air out of the tanks.

Another tip: sometimes that left lane can be your friend.
The right lane can be packed down and super slick while the left lane that everyone is scared of actually gives you better traction.formertaxidriver, allniter, FEELTHEWHEEL and 4 others Thank this. -
I mix 1/3 rock salt with my kitty litter. I stash my lock deicer outside of the truck.
A candle can save your life if you get stuck and run out of fuel.DoneYourWay and chipnbugs Thank this.
