I usually do 95% of my own work on my truck and trailer. Including tire work if I’m home. Well last week I changed my oil and my surge tank on the truck. Washed my truck too. By the end of the day I just didn’t feel like laying on the ground greasing it so I figured I’d stop by Petro/TA to let them do that.
I stopped by Petro and should’ve told them nevermind after the Tech asked another tech to show him where the grease zerks were located. He filled it up with so much grease it blew a seal on the S-Cam tube. I was loaded and grossing 90k. About 80 miles later it just didn’t feel like. Felt like my brakes were real tight and kept dragging after coming off the brake.

Being heavy and running across I70 in Indiana was a bad combination. Well here’s the pictures… IMG_1930.jpeg IMG_1931.jpeg IMG_1929.jpeg I’m never against anyone learning. We all have started somewhere with an eagerness to learn. I just wish he was showed the proper way to do things. Since I don’t weld I dropped my trailer off the get that bracket welded.

I'm not seeing the correlation between overgreasing and a broken bracket. Unlucky coincidence IMO. The broken bracket was probably the reason the brakes felt like they were dragging.

Brakes felt like they were seizing because there was grease all over them, I suppose.

Sorry, but that looks like it was loose for a while, not just after he greased it.

The bracket is bolted to a flange that holds the chamber end of the cam tube, there is no way that this was caused by over-greasing but lack of it.

Of course not, thats why I mentioned being loaded 90k and running across I-70 W in Indiana was I believe, the cause of the broken bracket. My S cam connected to the bracket was being pushed up and eventually broke it. After the S- cam seal was blown by the grease.

Cam being crooked and out of alignment was likely pushing on the shoes a bit too.

I fail to see how a blown s cam seal could cause all those fasteners to break off.

Blagoje, Ribeye and Rideandrepair Thank this.
