What do you do if you turn onto a road that has a truck restriction ?(eg. no trucks over 20 feet)

I was driving and got lost, took a turn off a main road and saw a sign that said no trucks allowed. I couldn’t back up or turn around and ended up going through neighborhoods and several other restricted roads.

What are you supposed to do in a situation like that?

Keep going till you find away out or off the no truck roads. Hope their is no bridges to worry about. Hope the police don't see you.

If you're in a residential neighborhood, probably best to keep going until you find a 4 way intersection wide enough for you to turn left or right onto. Make the turn, then back up straight through the intersection, and turn back the way you came. I've had to do it once in my driving career.

If things continue to get worse, you have no choice but to back all the way out. Whatever you do, don't attempt a U-turn in a tight spot. If all all else fails, call the local cops for an escort out. Yes you'll get a ticket, but you won't destroy anything trying to do it yourself.

    I disagree.
If you were able to get on that road going forward, then you will be able to get off of it going backwards. You simply got lucky. Driving deeper into that situation doesn't always work out that well. Imagine getting several blocks and turns into that residential neighborhood only to find no more room to maneuver that truck any further. Now what? The best move in that situation is to pull over, turn on your 4 ways, pull up the satellite view on google maps and figure out your options. May be necessary to contact law enforcement to stop traffic on the main road you turned off of to allow you to back out.

Generally, if you call the police before you knock something over, they will help you or maybe just tell you how to get out of that jam. Call the non-emergency number, sometimes called "dispatch". The map the police dispatcher has is guaranteed accurate.

Yea I just kept going and digging myself deeper. Luckily I didn’t hit anything although I had to make people back up at a few intersections.

I was about to call the cops. Good idea backing up at the intersection and going back. But this was off a main road and cops would be needed to let me back out. I would have had to reverse down the road in this situation.

Can you imagine tow trucks and cranes trying to extricate a tractor trailer rig from a residential neighborhood? Makes cops blocking traffic on a main road sound like a pretty simple option!:D

Thanks, I might buy a garmin truck GPS. The one built in my truck made me take every wrong road, I drove far up the main road to avoid going to a side road but eventually entered one because the sign was about 300 feet up the road and I saw it after making the turn. It would be easier if they put the sign on the corner.

I keep driving. I delivered to beltsville MD a few weeks ago, and the road I turned onto had a 29 ton bridge, with the sign posted literally 2000 ft before the bridge and nothing before that. Oh and no place to turn around. The sign looked fairly new. I crossed it, I'm not binding up a spread axle trailer in the middle of a busy street because some municipality can't post signs correctly.

I will give you a tip (if you already do this then good) but compare your GPS route to an up to date truck atlas. It's saved me a lot of aggravation a few times and only takes a few minutes
