Oh, you would have to wake up... hope you had a good snooze!

The leader of the recall was a gal named Maria Chacon, who became a public figure, city council member, Mayor then apparently in a fit of hubris, had herself appointed City Manager (big salary) and reality stepped in and had to step down or face prosecution. Or so I'm told.

    Maybe power does corrupt.

//Okay, are we tired of hijacking Criminey's thread yet?

I think CJ ran screaming many, many posts ago.

    Entertaining read, you two.

I agree with DY - I remarked to the better half the other day how I used to be the flag waving anarchist, and now prefer to resemble water in the stream - flowing past the minor obstructions. Life is only so long.

No, no, no. Bright One's been staying in the shallow part bouncing off all the rocks right under the bridge. If he just moved over into the water a little deeper toward the middle there he could have avoided tons of unnecessary pain at both Covenant and Conway Truckload.

But, no-o-o-o. Gotta be Mr. Stoic. Mr. Perseverance.

Blair, you work/worked for ODFL. QED.

//And you are going through a mid-life crisis right now. Hopefully, hopefully turns out well for both you and Bright One!!

Poor CJ was probably up all night tossing and turning about this. I got to say, Victor, were you a lawyer or something before becoming a driver?

Minor correction: Jerner v Allstate wasn't a medical case (http://yerrid.com/verdict17.cfm). Allstate insurance fired an employee for erratic behavior culminating in his taking a gun to work. Where they -- arguably -- went wrong was in agreeing to provide that employee with a letter stating his job had been eliminated as part of corporate restructuring. Somehow that slightly negative letter (afterall, it is corporate speak for "we took this opportunity to cull the herd;" companies typically "find a place" for valuable employees) was twisted by plaintiffs into being a "letter of recommendation."

And I say arguably because Paul Calden didn't march into Allstate and declare "This is what you all get for firing me!" before opening fire on 5 executives, killing 3. No, he did that 4 years later -- 9 unemployed months after being terminated from Firemen's Fund Insurance (the lawsuit name came from Teresa Jerner, one of the widows).

This begs the question: would you rather be right (and wounded/dead alongside your co-workers), or wrong (but you & yours alive though out millions of dollars)? Pretty sure Vic would error on the side of chivalry. Me? I'm not so sure...

No, never a lawyer but spent a lot of time in the trenches (involved with litigation) on my own and along side others. Kicked beaucoup atty butt and took my own lumps as well. Most who litigate would be better off investing in therapy. Might be true of some wannabe L/Os, O/Os, too...

All present company excepted, of course, including Bright One and Blair.

And actually was a driver long before involved, really involved in legal battles.

Hehheh! I was up, but applying for more jobs. I am thinking about giving Systems another try if I can't get local/regional.

Most of my job searches have been on CL and Indeed.com. I am also sifting through some other sites, but they are annoying because Swift and CR England post about 30 listings for every non-mega listing you find. There is a lot of chaff to plunge down through.

My comment about snoozing was directed at Double Yellow, Criminey. Thinks he's my younger, smarter, better-looking, more experienced little brother. We've kinda cluttered up the thread doing the sibling rivalry thing and I apologize... not my rant THIS time.

Do you have some outfits near you that you can go see in person, not fill out app, just go talk to them? Put out too many apps and you're likely to be seen as a little desperate. By asking for a no-strings meet-and-greet you get to eyeball each other and you'll get a sense whether they're interested. They'll ASK you to fill out an app. They know you're there to check them out.

You'll have a much better sense about whether you're interested in them, too.

I recently changed jobs and put in one and only one app, wanted part-time and only submitted the app after the local manager said emphatically that he'd like to hire a part-timer, had never done it before but had lost a couple drivers when things slowed up and their pay dropped.

    Seems to be working out...
