Recently applied for a job hauling wood chips for a local logging company. I was told their insurance company would not cover me because I had not hauled wood chips in the past 3 years. I was doing lowbed work hauling heavy equipment to remote mine sites. However prior to that I had hauled wood chips for trimac for 23 years. Clear abstact, 30 years safe driving and I am not qualified. Ridiculous?? Are these insurance company's for real?

Must be the company or your location. In my neck of the woods you would be hired right now!
Our mills are very busy and plenty of jobs hauling chips and logs.

A policy written by a white-collar millennial that has never left their safe space.

Where are you looking for work? There are lots of places that will be hiring right now hauling chips with summer landscaping in full swing. I think the paper mills have chip drivers as well. Post where you are looking and I’m sure the forum can come up with some ideas.

So how would a new driver ever be able to start hauling it'd be impossible, sounds like this transport company uses a fussy insurance company either that or there just spinning you a load of hogwash to avoid hiring you.

This might just be an issue of bureaucracy. Somebody at the insurance company doesn't realize you have 23 years experience hauling chips and isn't giving you a special exemption they probably have for this kind of situation.

This is happening more and more, insurance companies have no clue how to insure commercial vechicles, so they use this "min 2 years in the last 36 months" blanket policy to make their lives easier. ICBC is one of the worst offenders, and is causing all kinda of havoc for companies trying to get guys LCV certified or to go from Van/Reefer to Deck or Tanker.

If this is ICBC, don't take it personally, they are all kinda of ####ed up right now.
