so I graduate truck driving school in under 2 weeks and have my New York State road test 2 weeks from Wednesday.
It consists of:
Outside and in-cab Pre-trip
Backing maneuvers: straight line, see side or blind side offset and blind side parallel
The road ride
Needless to say I’m nervous as heck. Any one have any tips on staying calm while heading down to the testing site??

A few beers to take the edge off? In all reality you will be okay, just remember everything they taught you and you will be fine.
TugHillRider Thanks this. -
Slow and easy.
Don't hurryTugHillRider, Puppage and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
You are taking a very nice clipboard holding person for yet another ride.
Im just happy I don't have to play circus bear performing tricks with trucks... er road testing everything on demand like NYS wants.
Good luck to you.
Remember, its not that state test that should worry you, its what you don't yet learn or know out here.TugHillRider and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Dont over think it, just go there relaxed, and do what you were taught to do.

I told myself that nearly 3/4 of cdl holders are morons...if they can do it, I can. Passed on first try, scale tips slightly towards the moron side.
TripleSix and TugHillRider Thank this. -
Dont worry about failing. You can always retest.
Oh and practice all that you can. If you have a fifthweel or goose neck trailer, the idea is the sameTugHillRider Thanks this. -

Dont overlook you in cab pre trip. I found it difficult to remember those break check steps. The rest of the pre trip I found easy.
Backing maneuvers. Do them exactly how you practiced them, dont get creative. Dont try to wiggle your truck around to make it pretty, just get it inside.
Road test. Drive the truck. Roll windows down for the railroad tracks, dont shift or stop on them. If he tells you to park on the shoulder dont forget to mention that bit about the triangles. Its 10 minutes or longer in TX. NY the same?TugHillRider Thanks this. -
Yeah I’m so much nervous about the pre trip. Static brake check, pump down, tug check, etc. it’s more so parallel parking. It’s hit or miss with me lol
I know I’ll be alright but I just need i be one and done.
And the road portion is about 25 minutes. Get on highway, get off, turn left, go up turn right, turn right, turn left, turn right turn right get back on highway, go up and get off, simulate emergency stop, etcRoadRooster Thanks this.
