Blackstone about every 3rd oil change for me. They keep the records and show you the trends but it sounds to me like you are looking for something more extensive @Siinman.

I really like the idea of having a log on website that I can just go to and look at all the data in one place. I could do it myself with the Blackstone it seems. It would take a little more time than I want to spend doing it. I want to run it the oil longer than I have in the past but only when I see it is safe to do so.
I plan on checking it on a regular bases to understand how it can be done and when the break down point is. I would like to take samples every so many miles for the life of the truck from the start. I never took samples from my last truck since I never planned on having it very long. I plan on having this one for 4 years so it would be nice to have that data. It would also help out on the resale if engine is still in good condition like first started on results.God prefers Diesels, shooter19802003 and Oxbow Thank this. -
Polaris Labs. I use them for coolant analysis. You set up an account and can go and look up previous reports/trends on each piece of equipment you have in their system. They are very good at what they do, and little on the pricey side....but worth it if your a data nerd like me. I use Blackstone for oil sampling and Polaris for coolant samplingSiinman, God prefers Diesels and shooter19802003 Thank this.

I do. I put the hose down the dipstick tube and fill up the bottle. Then I unscrew the bottle and dump it back into the engine. That clears any debris, and also clears the tube of previous oil sample. Then I screw the bottle back on, and take the actual sample.

I use blackstone labs, usually get results within a week of mailing in my sample. The automatically send me additional test kits.

Same as him - I use Schaefer's too.
I bought an Amsoil spin on bypass filter setup for about $350 - it has an oil port on it for clean samples.Jed2009, shooter19802003, Siinman and 2 others Thank this. -

This looks to be a very good option. I will look into them a little more when I get ready to do it. I love the idea of seeing all my information in one place.God prefers Diesels, shooter19802003 and Evil_E Thank this.

I've only used Cat's SOS as @Oxbow said. I also use their sample gun SOS-PUMP about $27 and a very nice quality product. I've had no issues with sampling from the dipstick. I was sampling about every 10k to find a sweet spot which for me (2015 VNL 780) is about 25k.
