Is it jst me? I'm a little sceptical.... Twice in two weeks???? Maybe they were upset that mister "one of the best" seems to be incapable of knowing his own limitations and displays poor judgment on when he should drive based on his particular set of skills. Sadly, Mister "one of the best" is one of those that need to park in bad weather. Use your best judgement when it comes to weather....If you don't think you can handle it....You probably can't. Just ask mister "one of the best".
Such is the state of today's drivers. Its not that hard. A lot of 15 yr olds could be trained to throw them with out too much problem. At least the 15 yr olds that I ran with when I was that age. Most all of us were out cutting, splitting and selling fire wood for some pocket money by the time we were 15 when I was growing up.
More than likely that guy wasn't "one of the best" if this was his second winter with two wrecks in two weeks. For one thing it does look like he was over stating his abilities and he'll also be hunting a new line of work. Not many company's insurance carriers are going to be willing to take him on for about 3 years now.
That's my point....So many of these "driving school pros" think that they know what they're doing and have no clue. The whole "if I have to chain up, I'll park it" mentality. I see these guys in here all the time complaining about how "hard" it is to do this and how all of the older more experienced drivers "don't get it" because we are willing to do the job the way it is intended to be done...But of course that requires work! And a lot of the 24 year old 450 pounders don't want to do that! Maybe the whole "not being afraid to work" thing is why some of us are doing well in these hard times and others are sucking air! I've been out here a long time and more than 35 years as a O/O and I'm doing quite well even though it's a little tougher right now to catch the dollar. I'm not a success because I sit in truck stops whining about weather and the economy....It's because I'm not afraid to get out there and do what I need to do to get the job done.

I run 65 Mph if there's snow or not. you just got to have your head on Straight. and i dont get snowed in. i may loose traction but i always make sure i can roll.
Well I ain't snowed in but I did see many that should have been yesterday. From Nashville to Northwest,IL yesterday I saw 6 jacknifed trucks in the ditch, 5 rollovers in the ditch and at least 100 or more 4 wheelers in the ditch. Saw a 4 wheeler pinned under a big truck on I-74 just west of Danville,IL hope they all made it out ok. It was not pretty yesterday that's for sure.
my point being when it's bad enough to throw chains, i don't need to be on the road. but seeing all the big trucks in ditches and medians everytime snow flies, i am obviously in the minority. so far i've kept the shiny side up though.... haha...the physical ACT of throwing chains, I could handle. Needing to do that because roads are so bad, i choose not to. Get a job where you can make enough in decent weather that you don't have to chase a buck in bad weather.
