Varies by location and driver need. Typically see six month minimum but some places need drivers and are willing to shell out the $2k+ tuition fee to send their newly found dock workers through school. Not sure about ODFL but my carrier pays you an hourly wage to sit through class, so this investment is not only pricey but also super risky for them.

On the bright side, ODFL is aggressively expanding and we are about to hit prime freight season. Best of luck.

Up until recent DOT changes, almost every LTL carrier ran their own in-house school. But now with these stupid new accreditation requirements, they are going back to sending potential drivers to formalized schooling. ODFL, FxF, and even my company Yellow does dock to driver.

You are under a one year minimum obligation to work there when you get your CDL.

Hopefully that “prime freight season” doesn’t fall on its face with fuel as high as it is.

Hate to say this, but I am convinced the worst is yet to come. I believe we are about to enter a recession that will stifle the entire US economy and beyond our borders. You could expect $6+ fuel prices and consumer goods up an additional 30% (assuming you can find it). Last months Consumer Price Index rose to 8.7% but many stores have already outpaced the national average. Example, a case of Kirkland brand water at Costco used to cost $2.99 last November. it's now $3.29, a 10% jump. Some places used to have 2 for $5 sandwich meals which now jumped to 2 for $6, a 20% increase. The list goes on and on.

Inflation started about two years ago during the height of the pandemic. Initially they said it would be transitory but that is not the case. 80% of all the money currently in circulation was printed just over the past 22 months. In this time frame we have been transporting and consuming items that have been already produced Now supplies are running low and the crisis in Ukraine is adding more fire to an existing volatile situation.

Freight demand is going to be down because there won't be anything to ship.

Wont be anything to ship because people won't be able to afford it..the people that work that is. If the government stopped giving handouts to deadbeats, free food free rent free medical care, people would have to get off their lazy butts and go to work. The more I work the more the government takes out of my wages to support those who don't work. I'm not talking about elderly or disabled folk, im talking about healthy people who can work but choose not to..you know the entitled ones who think they are too good to work!

    Yeah exactly.

I used to have this old saying. I have to get up early each day and work really really hard because millions of people on welfare depend on me.

So recent reports stated that 57% of Americans didn't pay any income taxes last year. Then you couple that with that 80% of our currency in circulation that was printed in the last 23 months.

We are printing money and giving it to people that used to produce goods and services but are now staying at home. You have perfectly capable people sitting at home getting paid to do nothing and purchase things that the rest of us helped to produce.

Then everyone wonders why prices are going up.
