I went for my physical first as i thought it pointless to pay for the permit and then fail the medical. Armed with the medical certificate I applied for the permit and put on the application for all endorsements, so I had to take all the knowledge tests first. The when I passed the HazMat I was informed to get the fingerprints and then come back to the MV Agency to get the permit. I expected the sequence to be the other way.
Thanks Toadnt,
Gives me some hope now. Just hoped that I wasn't shelling money out on a hopeless task.
Good luck to you, I will keep you in my prayers.

Many thanks @Chinatown.
I haven't heard of a lot of those so I will definately be checking them out.
I dont start school yet, this is starting in April and lasts for 2 months. When would be the best time to approach these companies?
Again, thank you Chinatown and everyone that replied. Took me by surprise to get so many responses this quickly.
taodnt Thanks this. -
(great minds think alike). I joined TTR May 6 last year and got my medical card May 11. I got a pacemaker in 2003 and I also wanted to make sure that I would not be wasting any time if I failed the medical. Because of a variety or circumstances I didn't attend CDL school until January of this year.
As you already know, time disappears, and at our age it happens at an alarming rate.Alec the trish Thanks this. -
Abilene in Richmond VA hires new CDL grads and have no issue with age. There is a physical agility test, but really its nothing more than stepping up on a stool a few times and lifting a 20lb crate. As drivers we are expected to clean out the trailers after delivery (if it needs it) and they want to make sure you can physically handle climbing into a trailer if necessary.
We do solo and team, dry van and reefer, one of our main travel lanes is I95 and have a regular customer delivery in South Plainfield (multiple trucks going there daily). I know of one driver who lives in Camden and takes his truck home, but I am not sure where he parks it. If you have somewhere to park near home and you opt for the North East fleet, you will be able to get by your house every week without having to use home time. Plenty of personal parking at Richmond terminal if you have no truck parking and planned to stay on the road for while.
I would give them a call even before you start school. Express an interest and ask what kind of CDL programs they accept (180hr etc). They might be able to give you more insight into the best time to apply. I think it's Trish and Courtney down there now.Alec the trish Thanks this.
