Paid by the hour is definitely the way to go for a company driver living in a ELD world...

Yes it is, especially when your in a big city area. The traffic doesn't drive me as crazy as it used to.

Just to update this thread, after three years with this company I called it a day due to management issues and driver mistreatment. I was being promoted to regional safety trainer when the dog doo started to hit the fan. They put camera's in the truck which wasn't a big deal( been there done that). As soon as the camera's went in the trucks it was a phone call every single day criticizing every aspect of your driving. I live in a area where there's alot of traffic so trying to keep a six second gap at all times was dam near impossible. Then coming back to the yard one day my manager calls me to tell me I'm going to pickup a load for another account and run it up to Seattle. I told him no I can't I have three hours left on my 14 and I'll run out before I get out of Seattle so have one of the daycabs do since I run Spokane tomorrow. We argued and ultimately I told him I'm not doing it and getting screwed out of my dedicated run and that I'm sick of never getting home on nights I was promised if I'd take the Spokane since nobody else wanted to do it. So I get back to the yard and my regional manager meets me in the hallway and said he'd fire me on the spot for insubordination. Now mind you I was working 65 to 70 hours a week and only getting a 34 off on weekends which I agreed too but I was getting pretty burnt out. He threatened to fire me and I told him to do it and I really didn't care at this point because I was tired of getting ran into the ground every week. So I decided to look elsewhere and found a awesome local gig that paid 7 dollars more and hour and was home everyday. I also talked my dispatcher into going with me since they threatened to fire him too for not doing drivers duties while on salary pay as a office assistant. He ran everything in the office and dispatcher for three of the accounts because my account manager was a worthless doorknob. We also took three other drivers with us. So as far as the Washington branch of this company goes I'd steer far away nowadays. There was alot of lies being told and backstabbing happening by management.
